Something I am writing for a Yahoo group and I thought I would share with you guys and gals at AuthorsDen as well. Feedback please.
I have several teachers over my education part of my life that I consider who taught me best. There is a teacher for Elementary School, Middle School, High School and College. I was fortunate to live since birth in the same house up to the age of sixteen years.
In Elementary School, my favorite teacher was in Second Grade. Her name was Mrs. Phelps. She taught me to strive to be the best I could be in school and every other aspect of my life. I miss her to this day. She retired from teaching in 1999. She was a magnificent teacher!
My favorite teacher in Middle School was my Choir Director. Her name was Mrs. Berges. I had her in Sixth grade. I continued on with singing up through College and Mrs. Berges encouraged me every step of the way. I also started babysitting when I was in sixth grade for her daughter, Ashley Berges. My babysitting experience took off like a rocket from there! I have written a previous story about Mrs. Berges, her name is Juneria. She is so very important to me and as I grew up from sixth grade; she taught the sixth grade, then seventh, eight and was promoted to High School as well. She is currently working as a Vice-Principal in Coppell, Texas. These days I call her Juneria and she considers me like her second daughter. She is working on her doctorate in education. She started out with a Bachelor’s when I was in Sixth grade. I looked up to her and still do to this day.
High School was a major time in my life of trying to get my “Head on straight”! I used to skip the last period of each day and drive to Fort Worth, Texas.I was getting counseling at the Rape and Abuse Counseling Center of Tarrant County. My favorite teacher during this time period of 1984 – 1988 was Mrs. Annis. She taught me PASCAL, a computer language. I learned it so fast that I taught the class one day! This class is what made me decide to go to college and major in Computer Information Systems!
I sang with the college choir while living in Missouri. It was a lot of fun and the director, Suzie Nichols, treated me as knowing a lot for I had eight years of piano. Also, I had been singing since Sixth grade. I was one of few that had almost as much experience as the director!
This is a fine tribute to some good teachers who took their vocation seriously. Having taught school for over thirty years, I find it very heart warming when students tell me that I did something positive for them. Thank you for sharing, Becca. Love and best wishes to you,
It is certainly nice to know that great teachers such as the ones you pay tribute to still exist and exert influence on the children of today and tomorrow.
