This is a true story, it happened not 20 minutes ago...
Three times now, in as many months, I watched the ambulance take her away.
I have been trying to show her the way, for 3 years or more.
This time, it is worse than the others, staggering out her door, a dive down 10 hard steps, layed flat out, blood head to toe. The husband as drunk as she, telling her to get up, refusing to call for help. Another neighbor went to call, while I stood trying to keep her awake.
The ambulance seeming to take hours, arrived and loaded her up, faster then I've ever seen before, as they raced down the street. I watched staring into the sun, the big red truck taking her away.
Memories come flooding in, almost 18 years ago, that was me, now it seemed as though it were only yesterday.
I thanked my higher power for my 17 years plus and asked him to do for one more.
My Spirit, please keep Melissa safe.

Sometimes, we rather walk blind, live in oblivion, but it's because we're afraid to change. We tell ourselves that change is not possible, not for us, and we believe that lie, sinking deeper into misery and pain. But sometimes, it takes a moment like this to realize that we need to change, that we are getting a second chance to change, and I hope and pray that she realizes this. And I hope that she is okay.
The pain of watching someone else go down a road we've been down ourselves while trying to prevent them from having to endure the same, can be so strong and makes us feel helpless. Someone has to be ready to receive that help, in my belief. I pray Melissa took your advice and guidance, and that this experience helped her to find her way through. So very sad Carin but until she realizes there is a problem and accepts it dear, you can only pray for her and hope she will listen. sad when one is abused and even worst when we abuse ourselves. I will pray for Malissa's safty and courage to change her life while she has the chance.
