Your sitting there writing. The television playing low in the back ground. Totally engrossed in your work.Suddenly a sound catches your attention. You stop typing and listen, you shrug it off , but wait there it is again.............

You have not worked in a while. You know how it is. Everything just seems to get in the way now and then. You just can't seem to get the time or mental ability to just sit down and write.

But, now you are gratefully alone. You have the whole house to yourself. You do not have to shut yourself in a little room and beat on the keys. You can sit with the door open, only the television playing softly in the background.

You get excited at the thought of turning on the computer, pulling up the work you have neglected for so long and finally, yes finally being able to focus on the task at hand.

Time slips by and you get in the full writing mode. You have so many thoughts going on in your mind at one time that your fingers can not keep up.

Just when you think it could not get any better, what was that? It sounded like it came from behind you. You turn and look, and listen, but there is nothing there. You shrug it off and go back to work.

Suddenly, you feel like someones breath has just softly blown against the back of your neck. You get a chill. You jerk around there is nothing there. You sit and listen, what the hell was that? Again you shrug it off.

You get up and get a drink, maybe light a cigarette. Anything to help you shake this off. You may go and peek out the window. The sun is slowly setting, You stay there a minute just watching.

Taking another swallow of your drink, you laugh at your self and return to the computer. Having calmed your self you return to your writers mode.

There it is again, a chill, the feeling your being watched. Your hands freeze on the keys. Your scared to turn around, yet the fear of not turning around is worse.

You remove your hands from the keys and quickly rise to your feet. Turning, you let out your breath. Funny, you don't remember holding it.

There is nothing there. Nothing. Where is all this coming from? You have waited for days to have this time. Your not afraid to be alone. You ravish the thought of some quality time between you and your computer.

Yet, here you stand. A full sense of dread has taken over your body. You want to shake this off and write. Yet the fear has taken over your body and mind.

What was the noise? The breath on your neck? What was the feeling of being watched. You are alone and you know it. Or do you?

Are we really alone? Are there things around us, we really can't see? Do the spirits that dwell here still like to peek over your shoulder for a quick read?

Have we not all, whether man or woman, had an experience we just can't explain. Whether it be a bump in the night, or you walk into a place you have never been before, yet for some reason it seems so familiar.

Are we as authors, our imaginations so vivid that we tend to let our minds step into our work.

Or............. Are we really not alone? The next time you are writing and think your alone. Watch out for the mist that comes under the door. Listen for the sound of the spirits walking up behind you on the floor. If you're really still you can feel their breath upon the back of your neck......

Just keep right on typing, and don't glance behind. For there may be the one day you do glance, you might just see and know for sure the answer, WE ARE NOT ALONE..........

Wow! Sometimes I feel like I'm writing in a trance of some kind. Tapping into the collective consiousness. I don't know what it is, but sometimes it feels like the stories are writing themselves, and I'm not in the driver's seat at all. But oddly enough, those are the times filled with a calm in my soul, an even keel where thoughts can flow like water, and fingers move without thinking. Great write Patricia!
Be well, always,
Mark
