Having worn many hats over the years, you might say that I am one of those people who not only loves a challenge but welcomes change. I went from flipping burgers at McDonalds as a teenager to personnel, payroll, warehousing, inventory control, site coordinator, author and church secretary—many hats over the course of thirty-four years. This is the way I am even today because that’s the way God wired me.
However, Wednesdays have become quite routine, as I leave the church office around 2:45 pm to pick up my 8-year-old granddaughter at school. Once she’s in the truck, we eagerly head over to Showmars Restaurant for an early dinner. This week was no exception.
Once inside the restaurant, Gracie and I placed our order at the cash register. Then we went on into the dining room and found our favorite seat along the back wall by the windows. Soon our food was brought out by the same guy that waited on us at the cash register. Later he came by and asked if we needed anything else. After about the third prompting and our tea glasses refilled, I said to Gracie, “Wow, that guy is wearing many hats today.” In response, Gracie looked at me puzzled and with great concern in her voice, she calmly said, “Maw Maw, he’s not even wearing one hat!”
