The Night That I Finally Called The Cops.

You know after so much, you just have to make the call. I was awakened by a noise of someone running either up or down the stairs from the upstairs apartment in the house that I live in. I looked at the clock and it was 1:26 a.m.
After coming to my senses, I thought that I was hearing music. It sounded like heavy bass music, as if it were saying, boom-boom-boom-boom-boom. I am sure that most of you have had the wonderful experience of having someone pull up along side of you while you are in your vehicle and all of a sudden your car windows start to rattle and shake due to the idiot sitting next to you playing that stupid boom-boom sounding bass, so called, music. Well that would pretty much describe the noise that I was hearing.
The noise of the bass sound was not coming from the inside of the upstairs apartment, matter of fact it was coming from outside someplace. I went to the front window and as I looked up the street to the east I saw a black two-door sedan parked next to the row of mailboxes only fifty or sixty feet from my windows. Inside the vehicle the interior lights were on, showing three male subjects sitting inside. One of the subjects sitting in the left rear seat was drinking from a can and then passed it around to the other two. They were all moving to the beat of the boom-boom sound of the music.
I could hear someone walking in the apartment above me. They were walking back and forth with a heavy foot. The single mother that lived up there did not walk in such a manner. The party that was doing the walking did not seem to be concerned in the least of the noise that he or she was making as they walked.
After I was fully awake, I became irate to say the least. I have been listening to similar sounds and noises for well over a year now. It was time to make the call.

“Sheriff’s Department, what is your emergency please?”
“Yeah this is Willington at 11226 Dowel Street, lower apartment. There is a vehicle parked in front of my apartment that is occupied with three white males, playing loud bass type music. They appear to be drinking something out of a can. One subject has left the vehicle and is now in the apartment above me.”
“What type of vehicle is it sir?”
“It is a GM, black in color, mid-nineties, 2dr.”
“Hold on the line sir, while I try and get a unit rolling that way.”
“Unit 73.”
“73, Unit 73.”
“This is Unit 73, go ahead.”
“73 check out a noise complaint of loud music coming from a black GM 2dr parked in front of 11226 Dowel Street. Possible three J B’s.”
“73, 10-4.”

A few minutes pass and the black sedan pulls away, stopping at the stop sign and then turned left on State Route 23. I called the Sheriff’s department and advised them that the vehicle has now left the area. The dispatcher that had taken the first call advised me that the officer was responding and he would give him the new information.
I had almost drifted off to sleep once more when I hear the GM pull up in front of my apartment and stop. I went to the window and saw three subjects standing near the vehicle. One in a blue coat and white stocking cap was just getting out of the back seat on the left side, the passenger from the right front seat was walking away from the vehicle carrying a plain paper bag with what appeared to be a bottle of liquor (due to it’s being inside a single bag). That subject was wearing a white coat and a white-billed baseball cap. The driver was dressed in a gray coat and black baseball cap.
Once again I made the call to the Sheriff’s department advising them that the car had returned. I was given the same answer as before, “ an officer has been dispatched.”
I lay back down and before I could get comfortable I heard the car pulling away. Going back to the window I saw it turning on State Route 23 once again. I called the Sheriff’s office and gave him that information.
By this time, I was exhausted and had fallen asleep once again, only to be awakened by sounds of stomping feet on the staircase that led to the apartment upstairs. When I got to the window I saw two white males, the one with the white and the one with the blue coat standing next to the stoop that led to the upstairs apartment. Thirty minutes had passed since I had drifted off to sleep from before.
They began to talk in loud voices, almost shouting back and forth. Using fowl language such as you would expect from a bar or similar place. Certainly not something you would expect coming from just outside your own apartment. One of the males, the white coat dude, bent down and placed something next to the outside wall of my apartment just below one of my windows. I was not able to see what that item was.
I was just about to call my new friend on the Sheriff’s department when I saw the squad pull around the corner and was heading towards my apartment. The two guys had since moved and were standing directly in front of my apartment on the sidewalk. As soon as the officer approached the two, I made a call. I informed the dispatcher that the two young boys that the officer was talking to were in fact the ones that had exited the car and went upstairs before. I also advised the dispatcher that one of the guys had placed something next to one of my windows on the east side of the apartment.
After the officer talked to the two, he sent them on their way. I saw them walking east towards State Route 23. Finally I would be able to get some rest and hopefully, sleep.
I was mistaken, because once again loud voices woke me up. They were sitting on the stoop for the upstairs apartment and without any regard for my much needed sleep and as I found out later, my wife’s. My thoughts were that they were waiting for the GM to return to pick them up.
“Shit. Oh Shit! Here he comes. The cop is coming back again.”
Apparently the officer had seen the two as they sat on the stoop or had seen them coming back while he was sitting at his present location. The squad pulled up, the officer got out and came directly up to my windows and started looking around with his flashlight on the grounds outside. He then approached the two males sitting on the stoop. He asked them why they were sitting there at 3:15 a.m. and did they know someone from the building.
They told him that they knew the girl that lived upstairs and were waiting on a ride from a friend. The officer then asked for identification and that he was going to check for any outstanding warrants. He returned to his squad and started the process of a warrant search.
The black GM slowly drove past the parked squad without stopping. The driver of the GM turned right on the next street and left the neighborhood. Or so I thought at the time. The officer returned the identifications back to the two and advised them to wait someplace else for their ride. Of course the two had to stomp back up the stairs once again, slamming the door as they entered the enclosed staircase. Not only up the stairs, but also, across the floors of the apartment upstairs as they moved about.

The GM returned to the front of my apartment within thirty seconds of the squad pulling away. You guessed it. Stomp, stomp, and stomp, down the stairs they came. The one in the white coat got into the GM and the other one, in the blue coat went stomping back up the stairs, slamming the door behind him.

Finally sleep! It was going to be great to get back to a nice deep sleep again.

But as luck would have it, and no pun intended, after dropping off to sleep, I was awakened once again. Someone had dropped a shoe to the floor, or thrown it against a wall and I was wide-awake again. Then I heard a sound like the squeaking of bedsprings. Squeak-squeak-squeak-squeak-squ-squ-squ-eak-eak-eak-eak-eak. Squeakkkkkkk! Squ-sq-sq. This noise kept up for fifteen or twenty minutes without any let up.

I went into a deep sleep after the squeaking stopped. Was it over? I thought so until I was awakened again by the sounds of someone stomping up or down the stairs. I was too tired to take a look and at this point to darn tired to care.

At 11:15 a.m. this morning two white males, one wearing a blue coat and the other wearing a white coat entered the enclosed staircase again, stomping up the stairs and across the floor above. I understand that at this time of day it was really none of my business so I put up with it. What really concerns me is that there is a young girl of four that lives up there with her mother. What does she think of all of this? Will this affect her morally and mentally? I think that it will indeed.
