Agnes & Sarah &Clyde & Sharon
Chicago, Illinois
Sunday: 5/14/39
7:04 PM
“A hardware store…” Murray said, mentally picturing the huge barns of places he’d been stocked from floor to ceiling with ‘millions’ of things he’d had no idea for what propose “...don’t know, too much to ever learn.”
“Nah…” Malcolm said “..so we’ll learn, it’ll be fine.”
“For you, maybe, but for me?”
“Murray, what’s to worry? Place like that, probably more then we’ve got.”
“So…” Ellen added “...it’ll cost a nickel to find out.”
“ ‘'Cincinnati’? Where’s ‘'Cincinnati anyway”
“I think somewhere in Ohio, Murray.”
Looking from her husband to Sarah. “So it’ll cost a dime to find out.” Ellen said.
Loveland, Ohio.
7:10 PM
Well aware of how easy it would be to become an habitual drunk, allowing herself but one, albeit double martini, slowly sipped along with dinner.
Food prepared in the kitchen, then — along with the martini, placed onto a small table before Agnes’ easy chair in the living-room where she would have dinner with radio’s ‘Amos & Andy’, then ‘The Shadow’.
One week since she’d placed the ad in the Chicago Tribune with but one call that abruptly hung up when informed the store was located in a small city sixteen miles south of Cincinnati.
‘Amos & Andy’ within minutes of finishing, Using the edge of her fork to cut into the apple pie, she’d made earlier— waiting for ‘The Shadow’ to begin...

“What time’s it?’’Ellen asked.
Looking a the cheap wrist watch he'd bought on Maxwell Street. “Seven- fifteen.” Malcolm answered.
“Think it's too late to call?”
Looking at his wife. “Don't know, Sarah.”
“ ‘Minimal down payment’! Maybe we shouldn't let it go till tomorrow.”
“If it’s not too late already.” Malcolm said to his wife.
“Where's the nearest Telephone?”
“The filling station on twelfth, I think.”
A business that might accommodate everyone's individual talents!
Anxious now. “Sharon...” motioning to her daughter “... and you, too, Clyde. We’re going for a ride.”
Women, with Sharon between in the back.
The men with Clyde between in the front.
Malcolm driving.
7:28 PM: Jiggling the receiver cradle.
“Number, please?”
Speaking in her clearest English. “long distance operator, please.”
“ ‘Long Distance’.”
“Cincinnati, five-nine-seven-two. Operator.”
Deposit ten cents please.”
The two nickels dinging.
Loveland: 7:32:
“ ‘The weed of crime bares bitter fruit! Crime does not pay! The shadow…” The phone, in the kitchen ringing. Putting her fork down, standing, going into the kitchen and catching it on the third ring. “Hello.”
Four months since the murder of her husband. One week since the discovery of his twenty-three year, never spoken of deceit, and the ad placed in the Chicago Tribune, with but one call that abruptly hung up when informed the store was located in a small city sixteen miles south of Cincinnati.
Wearily standing, going into the kitchen and lifting the receiver.
Loveland/Chicago
7:33 PM:
Lifting the receiver. “Hello.”
“Hello.” Sarah said. “I hope I'm not calling too late, but about your ad for the hardware store?”
Authors Notation: So here we have it. Originally meant as a two generational American semi-fictional accounting of the lives of the U.S. immigrant Kaminsky and Murphy families throughout the mid-twentieth century leading to and through the iconic American rock festival of the twentieth century when, lo and behold, in year 2015 along came twenty-three year old Agnes Longstead and the thirty-two year old, European jewel thief, Morris Pinowskiz,’ making this ongoing, semi-fictional, now early twentieth century, a three generational American saga.

On the floor before the console, Fibber McGee and Molly on the radio.
On this hot, August evening, still in shorts. Still sitting cross-legged.
Still wondering, ‘Why’?
Ten year old Clyde Murphy and eight year old Sharon Kaminsky had seen other naked since their parents had become friends in Chicago in 1937, while living in those side by side, slum store-front rooms where, in order to save the cost of water, they’d been given baths together since Clyde had been two and Sharon six months old.
So why now? Possibly because it wasn’t in the open, but supposedly beneath shorts and stretched out panties, and because he wasn’t supposed to see Sharon’s somewhat partially exposed vulva?
Possibly because he was a boy and she was a girl and he wasn’t supposed to be looking at what she had unbeknown to her been showing? Wasn’t supposed to be seeing? But he had been seeing. And for some completely unknown reason, wanted to see again. So wiggling his butt to the side, Clyde squirmed into a better position to see between Sharon’s thighs again at just about the same time as...
ON the other side of the International Date Line
August 6, 1945
8:15 AM, Hiroshima, Japan
During the night of 5–6 August, Japanese early warning radar had detected the approach of numerous American aircraft headed for the southern part of Japan.
An alert was given and radio broadcasting stopped in many cities, among them Hiroshima. The all-clear was sounded in Hiroshima at 00:05.
At 08:09, Colonel Paul Tibbets started his bomb run and handed control over to his navigator.
The release at 08:15 — Hiroshima time— and after falling nearly six miles in forty-three seconds, ‘The Little Boy’ exploded 1,968 feet above Hiroshima, in a blast equal to 12-15,000 tons of TNT, instantly killing sixty-nine thousand people.

Instinctively sensing Clyde’s eyes on her,’ looking at him looking at her — but he wasn’t looking at her face, he was looking lower. Glancing downward, Sharon saw her bare thighs, knobby knees and thin legs, and having absolutely no idea why or what he was looking at, and having no reason to, straightening her body and spreading her legs, childishly sticking her tongue out, Sharon stared back.
The Juxtaposition:
Looking up. Seeing Sharon looking at him, quickly looking away, Clyde angled his side to her —at about the same time as…

The plane was eleven and a half miles away before it felt the shock waves from the explosion.

The week’s coming attractions over with. One hundred-nine restless, noisy, pop corn and ‘JuJy-Fruit’ eating children already having hysterically laughed at ‘The Three Stooges’ and ‘Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy’, now anxious to get to— whichever comes first— ‘Hopalong Cassidy ’ or ‘Red Ryder and Little Beaver’.’’

On Sunday, September 2,…” the announcer said “... more than 250 Allied warships lay at anchor in Tokyo Bay.
The flags of the United States, Britain, the Soviet Union, and China fluttered above the deck of the ‘Missouri’. Just after 9 a.m. Tokyo time, Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu signed on behalf of the Japanese government. General Yoshijiro Umezu then signed for the Japanese armed forces.
Supreme Commander MacArthur next signed, declaring, “It is my earnest hope and indeed the hope of all mankind that from this solemn occasion a better world shall emerge out of the blood and carnage of the past.”
Nine more signatures were made, by the United States, China, Britain, the USSR, Australia, Canada, France, the Netherlands and New Zealand, respectively.
Admiral Chester W. Nimitz signed for the United States. As the 20-minute ceremony ended, the sun burst through low-hanging clouds as the most devastating war in human history was over.
12:42 PM: The Juxtaposition
“Yeah, ‘Hoppy’!!!” A hundred-nine American children yelled, “Yeah, Hoppy!!!” As….
‘Hopalong Cassidy’ galloped across the screen.
Then, of course: Let us not forget the fourteen year old ‘want-to-be prostitute’, while going along with her to ‘The House of Flowers’, where some degenerate men like the ‘young — if they had breasts, better yet— school girl type’.
Margy Binkowski …
...was born on September 6, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was raped by her then, near eleven year old first cousin, Patrick Binkowski when she was, at that time, eight years old.
Actually it was Margery(Margy) that brought the entire sequence about as— extremely curious and, for her age, more than a bit randy, in reality, it was Margy that had raped her eleven year old cousin, Patrick.
You see, Margery loved her cousin, Patrick.
No, it was more than cousin to cousin love. Margery had a major case of what one might call puppy love for Patrick.
Not quite ready for Margy! We’ll get back to her as she becomes a bit older.
Who knows, adult Margy Binkowski might even meet up with adult Clyde Murphy in Woodstock?
Who knows?
Possibly, at the time, thirty-nine year old Margy Binkowski might even meet up with, at the time, thirty-three year old Clyde Murphy at Woodstock in August 0f 1969, along with Margy’s, extremely horny, appearing much older then — everyone’s doing it —pot smoking seventeen year old son that… Who knows; might even take a shine to, at the time, thirty-one year old Sharon, who’d willingly taken numerous hits from offered, saliva moistened joints herself.
Who knows?
‘The Shadow’ don’t!
But I do!
Maybe I do? But it’s twenty-one years from between 1969 and...
I love the mix of history with the story stateside. For this snippet 10 a picture from Hiroshima or even of the peace signing on VJ Day would be enough to put the chapter back in the Stories section.
I warned you before. While for the most part your stories are all geographically and timeline wise correct, anyone who lives in Cincinnati and would read your story would laugh that Loveland, Ohio was "… 16 miles south of Cincinnati."
There may not have been a bridge South of Cincinnati across the Ohio river into Kentucky in 1915. But there certainly would've been one by 1937. And then a torturous road up the mountain, in Kentucky to the next little town 16 miles away. Loveland is clearly 16 miles north east of Cincinnati on all maps and certainly not in Kentucky.
