This story is dedicate to all Mothers alike "natural" and birth "mothers" and dedicated to the Memory of Jennifer Renee Griffin.
The Yellow Roses On Mary's Altar

Today is Mother's Day and as Frank and I walked into the sanctuary of our parish of Saint Ignatius on's Chicago North side. I noticed on Mary's altar a vase of yellow silk roses.

Immediately came into my mind, that my dear late friend and SIS, Jennifer, loved both yellow roses and carnations.

Both yellow roses and carnations symbolism "friendship" and "platonic love".

Next to the vase of yellow silk roses was a beautiful vase of "white" silk roses that symbolizes "purity" and "faithfulness" both of the attributes did my dear late Jenn have.

The Mother's Day homily delivered by our dear Father Joe, was a combination of memories he shared with us the parishioners about his own late mother and today is also the feast day of Jesus The Good Shepherd.

For some of us "Mother's Day" is very special because we may have been once "mothers" to a child and then all of a sudden became a birth "mother" created by judicial act.

Birth "Mothers" regardless to what any one thinks play a very important role within this society.

Without Birth"Mothers" those women who are not blessed by the Good Shepherd, are able to become another "woman's" child's mother.

Does any one ever think about why some women are blessed with the capability of being mothers and some women are not. There must be a good women.

People are so sublime that they can not comprehend the fact that the Lord knows which one of us are capable of taking care of our children and which one of those who are not.

No where in the Bible does it sanction "adoption". Not the adoption we know of by a judicial act. A "spiritual" adoption is a divine act.
This is because we are all related via Adam and Eve and this is the only way we all are related. We are all human and have fallen from grace.

However, the earthly adoption erases the natural heritage and identity of a child and breaks the natural bond between a mother and her child.

The legal definition of adoption means "to take as one's own". However, the real definition of adoption is that it does erase the natural identity and heritage of a child and creates a false identity and heritage of a child by judicial act.

It states in Psalms, Lo Children Are A Heritage of The Lord.

I look at the whole picture and I ask myself how many unhappily adult adoptees are because their "adoptive" parents have thrown them way because they did not live up to their expectations of what they had for their "adoptive" children.

Children that were suppose"to take as their own" and treat just as they would treat their own own "natural" children.

The fact remains. These "adult adoptees" are not their own children. They are not their own children and when the "adoptive" parents were disappointed in the outcome of their "adoptive" children. They simply threw them away like an old pair of shoes.

I see myself, Robert Lee, my own daughter, Rebecca, my late Jenn, and Jenn's late infant son, Jayden, and Christine. All of us were adoptive and none of us love along with many other adult adoptees to suffer from the "adoptive child syndrome".

We have a few happy memories, but not enough to substain us. We know we are the "black sheep" of the family.

My dear late Jenn. She had three children. Her paternal twins died shortly after birth. Both being born prematurely.

One died shortly after birth and one died three months.

Two month and half months before Jenn passed her dear baby son, Jayden, is shaken to death by her aunt's husband.

Here is a woman she thought she could trust to raise her son, but unfortunately she did not know that her aunt's husband was incapable of taking care of an infant.

Jayden is adopted within her family, but proves to better or capable of raising a child.

I take a good long look at my own daughter, Rebecca, now age 24. She was cruely taken away from her dad and I and all because we were found "unfit" by the Commonwealth of Virginia standards to be her parents after 3.5 years.

Today Rebecca is more dysfunctional. The people who adopted her and promised to "take her as their own" scream "Wrongful Adoption" because the State withheld certain information on her background on her health and family.

Certain heredity problems manifest when she hits 20 years old, and now they regret ever adopting her.

These "adoptive" parents publicly confess to her psychologist, psychiatrist, and casemanagers had they known about her family background they would have never gone through the adoption in the first place.

Just as Robert Lee's adoptive parents did, My adoptive parent's did, My dear late Jenn's birth "Mother" and "adoptive" mother did.

We should have a new holiday call "Mommy's Day" rather than "Mother's Day, because there is a vast difference between the two.

Any woman can become a mother but not every woman is a "mommy".

A"mommy" spends quality time with her children. Helps to create and build lasting memories that her children can look back on. She has no regrets when she gives birth to her children and she loves them for who they are.

On the otherhand, Mothers sometimes place to high of expectations on their children and the loves she has for her children is conditional. Some mothers regret having their children.

Two women in my last parish, St. Ita had children. One was a young woman name Tracy and the other Tara. Both were getting pretty well up there in age.

Both have to go through fertility treatment to achieve their desired pregnancy. However, Tracy openly said she only did it for her husband, Curtis, who seemed a lot more happier than Tracy did when she found out she was pregnant with their daughter.

Tracy publicly stated that having her child was going to stifle her career plans and this she was disappointed in.

On the otherhand, Tara and her husband, Tom, were very happy when they found out Tara was pregnant with their son.

One thing they both had in common, is that they could not conceive by natural means, i,e, sexual intercourse.

They had to go through fertility treatment just to get pregnant and the outcome is that both are no longer in a size 7-8 but now wear a size 16-18 dress, skirt, and pant sizes and a ex large blouse.

These two young women decided to put off having their children until they were ready to have rather than letting the Lord decide when they were ready to have them.

One thing, even though we as mothers do not think we are ready to undertake the mission of being a "mother" or "mommy" as the case may be, the Lord thinks otherwise and and it is he who knows what is best.

If our Lord does not bless us with Children of our own. There must be a very good reason.

God's Laws always above Man's Laws. Nothing supercedes God's Laws at all.

This morning at Mass on Mary's Altar someone placed a vase of "yellow silk roses" and as I glazed upon those roses of yellow, My dear late Jennifer came to mind, and tears came to my eyes and I was thinking about all the mothers today that had lost children and longed to be mothers.

The altar dedicated to Mary, reminds us all of what the Holy Mother had to under go for her son and what her dear son did for all of us to save us from a fate worse than death.

He sacrificed his life so none of us who believe in him would perish but have eternal life.

Yellow roses on Mary's Altar there must have been a reason. I wonder what it was.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY 2003.

Thanks for giving me the meaning of the different color roses Karissa. I usually buy my wife yellow roses, or different color roses but I brought them because of their beauty. Happy mothers day. Well written. GEM
