A fishing metaphor used to describe the end times ... appreciation for all of God's people - especially Vietnamese!
At Mass recently, the witty and joyful St. George Pastor, Fr. Mike Schatzle, shared a fun commentary on the Matthew Gospel Account (13: 47-53) concerning the fishing metaphor used to describe the end times - "a net thrown into the sea which collects fish of all kinds ..." and then, basically keeping the good fish but discarding the bad.
Fr. Mike noted that he was once previously assigned to a parish in the Houma area, where there were many fisherman.
Once, in reference to this same Gospel account, a parishioner there noted to Fr. that her husband tended to be like in the gospel account ... not always keeping what he had caught.
Next, she noted that she had noticed that many of her Vietnamese friends kept all the fish that they caught ... leading her to surmise the following, in reference to her hoped for disposition from God at Judgement time:
Yes, I am learning every day from my Vietnamese partner that the Vietnamese do not "waste" anything good when it comes from the land or the sea. Unfortunately, that same practice can result in the extinction of species when one does not know when to stop taking.
There is a certain scary feeling involved with only the "chosen" to be led into whatever it is the cult describes as, "the promised land."
