A little boy is involved in a horrific accident, and his father is having a hard time trying to deal with it.
Oh, if I had only known what would happen...because of my stupidity, Jonah's life now hands in the balance, and I don't know if I can live with myself if he were to die...
Yesterday, my little six-year-old son, Jonah Thomas, my wife, Penny, and myself (my name is Dwight, by the way) went to the park after Jonah got out of school for the day, and we went to the park because it was such a pretty early fall day, and we wanted to enjoy the weather. Well, Jonah's best friend, Colby Mitchell, was at the park, and soon, the two little boys were having a ball on the slide, laughing and just having the time of their young lives.
While the boys were playing out on the slide, I decided to play a game of archery with my friend, Pete, and we were soon having fun, too, but then a gust of wind came up just as I let go of the arrow that I had placed onto the bow, and it carried the arrow farther than usual. It ended up striking my little son in the chest. It all happened so suddenly, and it wasn't long before screams and cries brought Pete and myself running to the play area. My wife was crying as she held our little son's head in her lap, and our little son was unconscious, but he was gasping for air. His small face was so blue, and it scared the living hell out of both Penny and myself. It was equally frightening to see the arrow sticking up from his chest, and the sight of the blood pouring from the wound sickened me.
I had Penny call for an ambulance; not even five minutes later, we heard the keening wail of the siren, and it soon appeared. I tried to staunch the flow of blood from the wound, but my wife screamed at me and told me that I had caused more than enough trouble already, and the accident had been my fault. (Which it was.) Soon, Jonah was placed into the rear of the ambulance, and the ambulance speedily took off towards Nashville Memorial, which was the nearest hospital; and my wife, meanwhile, continued to yell at me. She said that if Pete and I hadn't been playing so close to the play area, this wouldn't have happened, and she said that she would never forgive me if something bad were to happen to little Jonah.
