The little boy who was accidentally shot in the chest with an arrow is nearly ready to leave the hospital; he is doing much better. This is the conclusion to his story, as told by his father, Dwight, and his mother, Penny. The little boy in question, Jonah Thomas, even adds his two cents worth in.
Penny (mother):

I can't believe it, but here it is, nearly a month later, and our little boy, Jonah Thomas, is about to be released from the hospital after accidentally being shot in the chest by an arrow. For a while, we thought that he was going to die, but now he is up and eating and is feeling much more like himself, and he is finally off all the tubes, and he still has some pain, but it is NOTHING like it was. It is a miracle that he even survived such a horrifying accident!

Dwight (father):

I still have nightmares even now, every night, about our little boy getting shot by that arrow, and I somehow feel like I was responsible. I didn't mean to shoot my little boy in the chest with that arrow; but a gust of wind had taken the arrow, and it struck our son in the chest; and it all happened so fast and in a matter of a few short moments. One minute, our son was playing with his best friend, and the next, there's my wife, screaming and yelling at me to call for an ambulance, as our son was hurt. He was lying on the ground, gasping for air, and his small face all blue, and I don't think I'll ever get over the sight of that arrow stuck in his chest, and the sight of all the blood.

Penny (mother):

I guess I overreacted when I yelled at Dwight, but I was upset at our son being hurt; and I know now that my husband didn't mean to shoot that arrow; but he and his friend Pete were too close to the playground area in the first place; and they should have been way across the park; then this wouldn't have happened, and our son wouldn't have had to go into the hospital. I mean, Jonah IS our only child, and if something were to happen to him, I don't think Dwight or I could ever get over it or forgive ourselves.

Dwight (father):

I am just glad that things turned out as well as they have since Jonah got hurt. It could have very easily been much more worse, and we could have very easily lost him; but God had a Hand in his recovery, and now, nearly a month later, our son is about to go home and continue his recovery. He should be able to resume all his normal activities in about a month, according to our doctor, Dr. Emmons. He said that Jonah Thomas was a very lucky little boy, and that we were right in getting help right away when he had been injured. That right there was probably what made the difference, and because of it, we still have our little boy, and we are indeed blessed.

The doctors and nurses at the hospital were so good with him, and they took excellent care, not only of him, but of us; they made sure we had all that we needed, and they made sure that our emotional needs were met. Having a child that is severely injured in an accident is a very scary time anyway, and it really helps in having people helping you through the uncertainty and trauma of it all. One nurse in particular, Miss Louisiana Sandusky, was especially concerned, and she was instrumental in keeping us informed on the latest updates regarding Jonah's condition, and she also prayed with us over him. I don't think we will ever forget her kindness or concern she showed towards little Jonah, and it is because of this that we are forever indebted to her.

Jonah Thomas (son):

I am a very happy little boy now. I am going to get to go home tomorrow with my mommy and daddy; Dr. Emmons just told me.

I was hurt by an arrow that daddy threw, and I am not mad at him, but I did NOT like being in the hospital! Everyone kept poking me with needles, and it was hard NOT to cry! And they kept waking me up when all I wanted to do was sleep! I also had all kinds of yucky tubes in me, and that wasn't my idea of fun! The whole time of being in the hospital wasn't much fun, but now that I am feeling a LOT better, I can't wait to get back to my Power Rangers or to see my friends again! I also can't wait to get back to school again and see my classmates and my teacher, Mrs. Derringer! She is soo nice!

I just hope the next time daddy tries to go shooting his bow and arrow again, he doesn't get too close to me! I don't want to be shot again; getting shot HURTS!
