Johnny, aged nearly 11 years, offers his views on the world.
I see what is going on in the world today, and it has me both sad and scared, sad because there are innocent people dying at the hands of evil terrorists (or other bad people), and scared, because one never knows what will happen next..that is, if we'll have another attack like the one on September 11, 2001, or WHAT.

I am also sad because I am dying, and I won't get to enjoy doing things like learning to drive a car, going on my first date or to my first prom, or getting married and having a family. I will always be a young boy, and every day I notice changes in my strength or ability to get around. There are things I no longer can do by myself, and I often need a lot of help. I have a disease that is wasting away my muscles and making them weak, and nothing much can be done to stop the progression; and to tell you the honest truth, it scares the living hell out of me because I never know what each new day might bring, and I wonder what I will lose next, in terms of doing things for myself.

I try not to worry about such things, but I am only a kid now, and I can't help myself sometimes. I know I shouldn't worry about it because I am a Christian, and I know that when I die I am going to Heaven and see Jesus; and also I will no longer have muscular dystrophy because I will be healed. That will be sooo good when that DOES happen, but until then, I have to live with my problems and put up with each new bad thing that happens and put up with being worried or scared.

In just about a month (actually, it will be a month on the 26th of this month), I will be 11 years old. I don't have much time left, and I want to make my remaining days count and enjoy what is left of my life. I want to see and do things while I am still able, and some of the things that I want to do (but haven't yet) include going to Alaska and seeing the wildlife and the aurora borealis up there (I have heard that the auroras up there are really spectacular!), going to Africa and go on a safari, and meet Joni Earickson-Tada. Joni is a lady who was paralyzed when she was a teenager (she dove into the water wrong and broke her neck, and now she is paralyzed from the neck on down; she is in a wheelchair), and she is a Christian who has written several books and speaks to people all over the world about her life and also makes people aware of the disabled. She is doing a very good thing, and I really admire her. She sounds like a very interesting person, a person I would very much love to meet.

If I could, I would love to give my money to the starving people in Africa, so they could have food or water, and I would also love to help find a cure for AIDS or muscular dystrophy, so people would no longer have to worry about these diseases. Also cancer; that is another disease I would love to find a cure for. I also would give my money to the poor people here in America and help the schools and help more people find jobs. I think I would make a good president because I care for people, and I would want to make sure that all wars would stop, and I would also teach people how to get along and not fight and hate. If I could do that, then that would make me VERY happy!

Another thing I would do is lower medical care costs, so ALL people could afford to go to the doctors, and I would go after these companies that are forever raising the cost of medicines, so old people (or the poor) can't afford them, and I would also make sure that ALL people could see a doctor when they are sick or hurt. I would also help our veterans; after all, they fought for OUR freedom, so we could be free; the only fair thing to do is to help THEM. It is only right!

I would also have the Bible taught in school, and I would have prayer brought back. I think it is because we DON'T pray that the world is in such a bad way, and I don't like to be told I can't say "Under God" when I am saying the Pledge of Allegience! I don't believe that we were descended from monkeys, and I wish people would learn that God was the one who created us, and that He made us in HIS image, not that of a monkey! Now, people may get mad or disagree with me, but this is how I feel, and I can't help myself at times!

I may only be a kid, but I see what is going on in the world, and I don't like a lot of what I see. People starving or not having money while rich people only seem to get richer, wars and hatred going on, people being robbed or killed, people being mean and nasty towards one another, and people not going to church. The world is NOT a very nice place, and if I could, I would change a LOT of things! I am a kid, and I want to see a nicer and kinder place for those kids who are only babies now; they deserve a place to be happy or safe, and I do too!
