Jenna Aurora Whitson continues to recover from her injuries. She suffered a broken jaw, a broken arm, and a broken leg after being involved in a car accident. She was on her way to Shreveport, Louisiana, to visit a friend, but was involved in a car wreck in Nashville, Tennessee, that put her into a hospital.
My name is Jenna Aurora Whitson, and I am in a great deal of pain as I try to write this down.
Do you know how HARD it is to write with an I.V. in my hand? Well, it ISN'T easy AT all, and it also doesn't help that I am in Godawful pain and can't lie on my side, so I can be more comfortable!
I am stuck in a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee; I have been in for nearly two weeks now, and I am bored to tears--not to mention, in PAIN! I broke my jaw, my arm, and my leg; and my stomach is killing me, too. It turns out that I had surgery--had to have my spleen removed--, and I have this stupid nose hose in my nose; and it is irritating the HELL out of my throat! I was in a car wreck, and now I am stuck here until I get well enough--but then, I will have to go to a stupid rehab hospital for therapy, so there is NO telling WHEN I'll finally get out of the hospital for GOOD! I was on my way to Shreveport, Louisiana, to visit a friend, but as you can very well see, I didn't make it. Thank GOD I wasn't killed, but I can think of a MUCH better way to spend a day than to spend it lying in bed and in PAIN!!
I live in Anchorage, Alaska, and I am not used to this warmer weather; but it isn't TOO bad; one thing, I have been stuck inside a stuffy hospital room in a bed that is bothering my backside! I try my best to get comfortable, but I can't, seeing I have a busted leg AND arm! And I am hooked up to tubes; so that only makes trying to move even more difficult. I miss my friends and my family, and I miss the colder weather; Tennessee IS nice, but it is definitely NOT Alaska!!
My friend has been up to see me already; he is staying at a hotel not far from the hospital, so whenever he comes, it is always a treat. I have known Michael since I was a kid; and I met him when he was living in Alaska; but then he got to missing Louisiana (plus his Cajun blood couldn't take the cold, I guess!), so he went back to Louisiana; and I have only seen him every other year. Michael is a bartender, and he makes very good money, so he can come to Alaska to see me. He loved Alaska for its people and natural beauty, but he just couldn't take the cold. (That time, I was living in Barrow, which is in the Artic Circle; so you KNOW very well that it can get MIGHTY cold up thataway! I moved to Anchorage just after I graduated high school, and I have been there since.)
The people here in Nashville have been nice, though, especially this one tiny, raven-haired nurse named Louisiana. She is a Cajun, too, like my friend, Michael, and so you know they hit it right off, talking about food and Cajun music and stuff; and then, here I am, lying in bed, with my jaw wired shut; and then THEY go on and talk about FOOD! Boy, talk about TORTURE! I should report them for patient ABUSE! LOL Louisiana is the head nurse at the hospital I am at, and she is very good at what she does; and she is very caring and compassionate. I wish more of the nurses were like her: some of the others can be regular BEARS, if you know what I MEAN! LOL
Louisiana is the one who has spent the most time with me, and she is very patient with me. See, I am deaf, but she knows both sign language and how to lipread, so conversing with her has been a snap. It turns out that she has several deaf children in HER family; this is how she learned sign language. She is very sweet, and she also has told me that she and her husband adopted a bunch of kids who are disabled, and she showed me their pictures. What a nice looking family! She also told me that she wrote a book about adopting and her family, and she said if I was interested, she'd get me a copy of her book. I told her that would be nice; it sure would beat lying here in bed, being bored to tears!
Well, I AM getting better: every day, I feel a bit stronger, but I still hurt, and having these tubes and the nose hose in my nose is NOT fun! If I could, I'd pull EVERY tube out of me and walk on out of here; but I guess I wouldn't get far on a busted leg! LOL Guess walking out of here is out of the question for me, hunh?? LOL
Crap. They just gave me some pain medication, and it is starting to kick me in the butt; have gotten a little sleepy all of a sudden. I suddenly can't stop yawning, and it is getting harder for me to keep my eyes open, plus things have suddenly started looking fuzzy. Guess I will write more later. Until next time, take it easy, and will write again!
