A young teenaged girl tells of her family's preparations for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday at her house.
My mom has been home from work only a half hour (she got off early today; she usually gets off between noon and one p.m.; today, she got off at 11:30), and already she is in the kitchen, cookin' up a storm. The sweet, tangy smell of foodstuffs cooking in the oven and on the stove is making my mouth water, even with my upset stomach; but it still smells good! (Maybe I am getting better; I have been home from school since Friday of last week; had a bad case of the stomach flu; and today is the best I have felt in days!) She is getting ready for our company; we are getting company from Louisiana and Texas: it seems that our aunts are coming to spend Thanksgiving with us.
THEN, after mom is done cooking, she will probably do laundry and clean up the house; if there is one thing she CANNOT stand, it's a dirty house or dirty laundry lying around all over, especially if company is coming over! She is a compulsive-obsessive neat-freak, and it sometimes drives me CRAZY! She is ALWAYS doing something with her hands, be it cleaning, tending to us kids, working at the hospital, cooking for our army, or God knows WHAT else!
I am sitting on the couch, covered up with a blanket, still dressed in my p.j.'s, and my hair is all askew, but hey...I am SICK; I don't FEEL like tidying myself up! If I feel better later, MAYBE I'll clean myself up and change into some clean jammies; but for now, I am too lazy! LOL JUST as long as I am better BY Thanksgiving...there is NOTHING worse than being sick on a HOLIDAY! (My little sister, Ronee', WAS sick on Christmas three years ago, and the poor kid even ended up in the HOSPITAL that day, too. It was NOT fun! Talk about a BAH-HUMBUG of a Christmas...that was about the WORST Christmas we had ever had as a family!)
Watching my mom puttering around the house like a busy little bumblebee is making me tired; I don't know HOW she does it or gets the energy! When I try to clean house, cook, OR do laundry, by the time I am so exhausted, I am about to fall over! Yet, there goes our mama, like she is SuperWoman, tackling the chores like one of those home show experts! I wonder if she is related to Martha Stewart somewhere along the line....LOL
But mom has REASON to be on a cleaning and cooking binge...our aunts are coming from Louisiana and Texas, and if there is ONE thing she does NOT want, it is a messy house! But she doesn't have to rush around like a chicken with its head cut off...heck, she is OFF until next Monday; she has one whole week off from work, so she should have PLENTY of time to clean the house or cook, NOT do it all in ONE day! But that is my mom for you...she is SUPERWOMAN! LOL
I have even offered to help her, but mom only got mad at me and told me to stay put; she said I wasn't well yet, and she didn't need me having a relapse. So I guess I am stuck here, banished on the couch, while I get to watch mom work herself to a worn-out frazzle! LOL
That is okay, but...I am BOOOORRRRRRED. I have been in my room or on the couch since Friday (today is Monday, three days later), and now that I am FINALLY feeling better SOMEWHAT, I COULD be doing SOMETHING than lying here on the couch, drawing mould or flies! LOL And I could be taking off some of the workload off my mom; heck, she works too hard ENOUGH as it is, even on the days where we DON'T have any company to speak of!
Oh, well...as long as I don't HAVE to do any extra work, then I guess I shouldn't complain, especially since i AM sick! At least I have a valid excuse for getting out of doing any housework, but it sure beats puking my brains out any day! (That's what I have been doing all weekend until yesterday...puking my brains out! I didn't even get to go to church or out to eat or NOTHING!) I have been stuck on the couch, feeling miserable, although it still DOES bother me to watch my mom working her little butt off to get our house in order!
A wonderful write, poor kid sick on the Holidays, with that brood I hope they don't all get sick...Great work as always you bring your characters to life...
God Bless
Michelle~

Well, I guess that's the fate of mummies - they have to be superwomen. Otherwise they would not get around. It's not easy being a mother !
Like that girl's attitude hehe. A typical teenager. Got one at home myself and she is driving me crazy!
Nice little story.
