The words typed on the page made her blood run cold. “I want you back, Abby.” She knew exactly who had left this.......
Abby found out a few days later that Jay had a job working in the ER at Central. As much as she hated it, Jay was back in her life, she would have to learn to deal with him. His still present love for her was going to make that hard. She ran into him on occasion, on her late night calls to the hospital, and in hallways. He remained professional, but Abby wondered how long that would last. Knowing Jay, not for very long at all. He had not taken kindly to Abby’s leaving. That time she had been in the hospital for three days. When she moved, it took him four months to find her new apartment. Abby had been at work when he stopped by. He had made it perfectly clear that Abby would never live free of him. The police ignored her pleas for help for the most part. Abby bought a gun, and learned how to use it. Having it on her bedside table eased her mind somewhat. She started sleeping a little better. As she walked down the corridor to her office, Abby rubbed the scar on her arm. The scar had been made when he had found her and broken in one night. She had woken up with Jay standing over her, knife poised over her chest. Abby had managed to fight the knife from his hands, but her arm had been cut in the struggle.Abby wondered what scar she would keep if Jay went after her this time. Would a scar be the least of her worries? Lost in thought, Abby didn’t hear her secretary’s greeting. She walked dazed into her office and sat down behind her desk. Scanning the surface in front of her, she noticed a folded sheet of paper. Slowly she reached for it, fear gripping her heart. The words typed on the page made her blood run cold. “I want you back, Abby.” She knew exactly who had left this, but how had he gotten in. Quickly she swept the room with her eyes, making sure he had not waited to see her get the note. Relief washed over her at finding the room empty. Abby’s day passed with out a run in with Jay, but she didn’t relax until she was locked inside of her house, alarm system activated. His absence today had scared her worse than actually meeting up with him. Was he somewhere planning his next attack?
A few days later, Abby saw Jay walking toward her in the hall. She stiffened at the evil look on his face. She steeled for the fight she knew was coming. “Did you get my note, Abby?” he said while passing. Abby turned and watched him stalk away, too shocked to reply. She had expected him to make a scene. The lack of reaction upset her worse than if he had caused a scene. What was he planning? Abby didn’t have a clue, and that scared her. The rest of the day was spent looking over her shoulder as she worked. Abby hated the control Jay still had over her, even after all these years. She thought of moving again, and finding a new job, but San Diego had really become her home. She belong here, even if she had to fight Jay to stay.
