Chapter 1.
Colonel Jack O'Neil of the United States Air Force waited at the base
of
the ramp for the rest of his team. They would be going through the
Stargate soon, and he couldn't wait. It was always such a rush to go
through the 'gate. He was a little upset at General Hammond this time
though. Hammond had added a member to his team for this mission, a
transfer from SG-9. The man was quite good, but his team worked well
as a
unit and adding a member…. Well, that usually was asking for trouble.
The
only reason O'Neil had gone along with it was the fact that the man
had
been on the original mission to P7R-225 and knew what SG-1 would be up
against, and more importantly, he knew where to find the naquadah
they were
looking for. Yes, Colonel Tyran Fyredrake could be useful on this
mission.
That still didn't mean he'd like the addition to his team.
"Colonel, where's Daniel?" Captain Samantha Carter asked as she,
Teal'c
and Colonel Fyredrake walked into the Gate Room.
"Good question, Captain Carter. Teal'c, why don't you and Captain
Carter
go find Daniel?"
"Yes, sir," Sam said as she turned around and walked out of the Gate
Room.
"I know that you're not too happy about my being on this mission,
Jack,"
Tyran said.
"I don't like people added to my team without my being consulted,"
Jack
said. "I have no issue with you personally. In fact, I understand that
you're a fine officer."
"Thanks, Jack." Tyran held out his hand. "Let's try to make this
mission
as easy as possible. OK?"
"Sure," Jack smiled. He took Tyran's hand and shook it.
They stood an waited in silence in the Gate Room. The power sled with
all
of the team's equipment sat resting at the end of the ramp
"This should be a rather interesting mission, Jack," Daniel said as
he ran
into the Gate Room ahead of Teal'c and Sam.
"Oh?" Jack said, with his eyebrow raised. "Interesting isn't how I'd
think to describe it, Daniel."
"Well, if I'm reading the initial reports correctly, there were
artifacts
found that no one on the original team figured out what they were."
"Just one artifact really, Doctor Jackson," Tyran said. "An obelisk."
"I'd like to take a look at this obelisk. Could you locate it again?"
"Daniel, much as I enjoy your bubbly enthusiasm, this mission is all
about
finding naquadah. Not studying an obelisk," Jack said.
"Well, I know how good I won't be in that part of the mission, Jack,
so I
thought maybe it might be in the best interest of the SGC for me to
do what
I'm good at. And this obelisk sounds like just the thing I'd be good
at."
Jack sighed and rubbed his temples. "Tyran, show Daniel where the
obelisk
is when we get on the other side," he said, exasperated. "Then meet
back
up with the rest of us."
"Sure thing, Jack," Tyran said quietly. "Doctor Jackson-"
"Daniel, please."
"All right," Tyran smiled. "Daniel, there were some pictures on the
obelisk. I don't think they were hieroglyphs. But you might want to
start
with those."
"Sounds like a place to start," Daniel said, smiling broadly.
"SG-1, prepare to go through the gate," General Hammond called.
"Chevron 6 envoded," the head tech called.
"I don't suppose that this is the best time to bring up that I still
get
nervous going throught the gate," Tyran said. The other four people
in the
party looked at him strangely. "I didn't think so."
"Chevron 7 encoded and locked. Sequence complete," the tech called.
The Stagate opened in a beautiful blue vortex. The gate shimmered, a
pool
of blue water.
It's no wonder the Abydonians call it the Circle of Standing Water,
Tyran
thought. That's exactly what it looks like.
"Ok, campers. Here we go," Jack called.
The five members of SG-1 walked up the ramp behind the power sled.
One by
one, they stepped through the Stargate and disappeared, only to
reappear on
the other end of the gate on a planet on the other side of the galaxy.

"Coming into range of the planet, Commander Adama," Omega called.
"Good, good. Any sign of the Cylons?" the Commander of the Battlestar
Galactica asked.
"No, Commander," Colonel Tigh said. "We seem to have lost them."
"That is good news, Colonel," Adama said." He turned to his son.
"Captain Apollo, you say that there are rich tylium deposits on this
planet?"
"Yes, Father. We should be able to mine enough Tylium to sustain the
fleet for quite a while."
"Well, Colonel, I'd say that this is the best news we've heard in
quite a
while." Adama smiled. "And the directions to Earth that Apollo, Sheba
and
Starbuck brought back to us give me great confidence that we will
someday
find the home of our brothers, the Thirteenth Tribe."
"Father, I'd like to take another team down to survey the planet one
more
time. Just to make sure that our fuel teams will be safe."
"Agreed. Take four other Warriors and be careful."
"Yes, Father."
Apollo headed off of the bridge towards the pilot barracks to rouse
some
pilots.
"Read 'em and weep fellas," Starbuck said, his teeth clenched around a
smoking fumarello. "A perfect pyramid. With the capstone."
Bojay groaned as he threw in his cards. "I can't believe how lucky you
are, Bucko."
Starbuck smiled and spread his hands. "Hey, I can't help it if I keep
getting dealt good cards. You guys keep giving me the cards."
"Are you sure you're not palming the capstone, Bucko?" Boomer
grumbled.
He'd been losing heavily to Starbuck for about a centar. Then again,
looking at Bojay's and Jolly's pile of cubits, he noted dourly that he
wasn't the only one.
"That would be cheating, Boom-boom."
"My point exactly."
"Boomer, I would never cheat!" Starbuck exclaimed. "I resent the
implication!"
"I hate to break up your card game, guys," Apollo said as he walked
into
the pilot barracks. "But I need Boomer, Starbuck and Bojay to come
with
me. We have a mission."
"I think the only person you'll upset would be Starbuck," Bojay
said. "He
was, shall we say, beating the pogees out of the rest of us."
Apollo laughed and motioned for the other three pilots to follow him.
"Sheba'll be meeting us at the launch bay."
"What's the mission, Apollo?" Starbuck said jauntily. "It better be
good.
I had quite a hot streak going."
"I can't believe you sometimes, Starbuck." Apollo shook his
head. "We're
running for our lives, and all you can think about is a hot streak."
"That's me, Captain!"
"Anyway, we're doing a last minute survey of the planet. Just to make
sure there are no surprises for our fuel teams."
"A survey mission?" Starbuck sighed. "You pulled me out of one of the
best games of my life for a survey mission?"
"For once in your life, Starbuck, just give it a rest," Bojay said
clapping him on the shoulder.
"Yeah," Boomer added. "Just think about all the people you'll be
helping
by giving up your card game."
"You won't convince him, guys," Apollo laughed. "Our man Starbuck is
single-minded in his greed."
"Very funny, Captain," Starbuck laughed.
The four friends walked into the launch bay. Sheba met them with her
helmet tucked under her arm.
"You were actually able to get Starbuck out of his game, Apollo?" she
said. "I'm impressed."
"Lady, for the good of the fleet, I wouldn't sit on my astroms and
play
cards," Starbuck smiled.
"Before the felgercarb gets any deeper," Boomer said. "I suggest we
launch."
The five Warriors rushed to their Vipers. Starbuck executed his famous
leap from the wing entrance to his Viper, and CWO Jenny, his crew
chief
tossed him his helmet.
"This is Planetary Survey 1 to Core Command," Apollo said over the
radio.
"Requesting permission to launch.'
"Core Command," Rigel on the bridge said. "Transferring control to
survey
craft. Launch when ready."
"You heard her," Apollo called. "Let's go."
The five Vipers rocketed down the launch tube, forming up into a star
shape once they had cleared the Galactica.
"Another perfect launch for the Galactica," Starbuck smirked.
"Don't get cocky, Bucko," Sheba said.
"Lady, cocky is my life."
"Trank it, Bucko," Apollo said. "Sooner we get this done, the sooner
you
can get back to cleaning out some of the other pilots."
"Well let's get going then," Starbuck laughed. "There are a lot of
cubits
waiting for me back on the Galactica."
"Apollo. I'm reading an energy surge on the planet," Bojay called.
"Can you get a fix on it?" Apollo asked.
"I got it. Wait. It's gone."
"You know where it came from?"
"I'm sending you the coordinates now, Apollo."
"Perhaps we should check it ouf, Apollo," Starbuck said.
"My thoughts exactly, Starbuck. Let's put 'em down nearby."
* * *
Five people and a power sled materialized through the Stargate on P7R-
225.
They shook off the cold and looked at each other.
"I don't think I'll ever quite get used to that," Tyran said.
"Yeah. Me either," Jack said. "All right. Let's spread out. Daniel,
secure the DHD. Teal'c stand guard. Sam, you, Tyran and I are gonna
scout
out this little hall."
They had emerged in a large building. Much like the room the gate on
Abydos was in, this was a large room with giant square columns.
Unfortunately, that meant that there were more places for enemies to
hide.
Jack still had visions of Horus guards appearing out of nowhere.
Sam, Jack and Tyran scoured the hall, making sure not to miss any
cubbyholes. After they were satisfied that they were alone in the
hall,
they went back to the DHD.
"OK. It's clear. Let's head on out," Jack said. "Tyran, you take
Daniel
to see his obelisk. Teal'c, Sam. You're with me."
The five soldiers walked out of the hall. A laser blast whizzed by
Jack's
head.
"Take cover!" he ordered. He dropped to the ground just as another
laser
blast whizzed right through where his head would have been.
"Stop firing!" a female voice shouted from the bushes to their right.
"They're human!"
"Get up," a male voice from in front of them ordered.
The five soldiers stood up and looked at the men in front of them. The
woman who had ordered the cease fire walked over to stand by the four
men.
They were all dressed identically. They had brown leather jackets with
brass buckles, tan tunics and pants and brown boots. They all also
had guns
of some kind pointed at the five of them.
"Now," the man in front said. "Who are you, and where are you from?"
"Well, I'm Colonel Jack O'Neill of the United States Air Force. And
we're
from a planet called Earth."
Chapter 2.
Commander Adama paced around the bridge of the Galactica. He was
always nervous when it came to sending Warriors out on missions.
They were the lifeblood of the fleet, and every time he gave the
order to send one out, he worried that the man or woman wouldn't come
back.
"Commander," Omega called. "We're receiving a call from
Lieutenant Bojay. He's requesting a shuttle."
"What for?" the commander pondered aloud.
"They found some humans," Omega announced.
"Humans?" Adama asked, suddenly intrigued. "Athena, you'll
pilot. And I will accompany you down."
"Father, I protest!" Athena said. "We have no idea who these
humans are. You can just as easily talk to them after they are on the
Galactica."
"Yes, Athena, I can," Adama said. "But I am going down to
the planet. Now, are you going to fly the shuttle, or do I have to
fly it myself."
"No, Father. I'll pilot," Athena sighed.
"Good. Colonel Tigh, you have the bridge."
"Aye aye, Commander," Tigh said.
Commander Adama strode off the bridge in front of Athena, a
sense of exuberant pride in his step.
* * *
"Shuttle's on it's way, Apollo," Bojay whispered to Apollo.
"Good." Apollo walked over to the five humans claiming to be
from Earth. "A shuttle will be landing shortly. We're going to
board the shuttle when it gets here and we're going to travel to the
Battlestar Galactica."
"Battlestar?" the human who referred to himself as Jack
O'Neill said.
"A spaceship. Warship actually," Sheba said.
"Warship?" one of the other men whispered to Jack
O'Neill. "Maybe it's something we could use against the Goa'uld."
"Stop whispering," Apollo ordered. "All your questions will
be answered soon enough. And maybe you'll be able to answer some
questions we've been trying to answer for yahrens."
"Um, what's a yahren?" Jack O'Neill asked.
"It's a time unit," Bojay said. "Equal to 250 days."
"OK," the woman said. "They have a different time system
than we do."
"Oh, great," Jack O'Neill said. "And I have enough trouble
adjusting to different time zones."
"Achoo!" one of the men said.
"Allergies, right Daniel?" Jack O'Neill said as his eyes
rolled.
"Yeah," Daniel sneezed into his handkerchief.
"Apollo, the shuttle," Boomer called.
"All right, get up, the five of you," Apollo said.
* * *
Inside the shuttle, the five SGC officers sat. They kept
looking at each other as if to ask what was going on.
"So, you've been awful quiet, Tyran," Jack said. "Nothing to
say?"
"Oh, I'd say this has been a pretty normal day for me. So
far, I've been reassigned to a new team, I go through the gate, get
shot at, and get taken prisoner by a bunch of humans wearing uniforms
the likes of which I've never seen. Yup. Normal day."
"I'm sure we'll be OK," Daniel said.
"And why would you say that, Daniel?" Jack sighed.
"Well, Jack, they could have just shot us," Daniel
explained. "I mean, it appears to me like they want our help or
something."
"I would concur, O'Neill," Teal'c spoke up. "They seemed
quite interested when you revealed that you were from Earth."
"They did, didn't they," Jack nodded.
An older man in a blue uniform walked back to where the five
officers were sitting. His uniform was similar to that of the five
warriors that had captured them, except it was blue, and he wore a
long flowing blue cape.
"I am Commander Adama," he said. "We do not wish to harm
you."
"You have kind of an odd way of showing it," Jack said. "We
were taken against our will."
"For which we apologize most profusely," Adama said. "There
is much we can learn from each other. Would you care to tell me your
names?"
"I'm Colonel Jack O'Neill," Jack said. He pointed to each
member of his team as he introduced them. "This is Doctor Daniel
Jackson, Captain Samantha Carter, Colonel Tyran Fyredrake, and that
friendly fellow on the end is Teal'c."
"It is an honor to meet you all," Adama smiled. "I would ask
that you join my family for dinner this evening on the Rising Star."
"The Rising Star?" Tyran asked.
"One of the ships in our fleet," Adama explained. "Our story
is a sad one. Our warriors that met you reported that you said you
were from Earth. Is this correct?"
"Yeah," Jack smiled. "Big blue ball. Yellow sun. Other
side of the galaxy. Yup, that's our home."
"The other side of the galaxy?" Adama asked. "Perhaps over
dinner, you could explain how you came to be so far from home."
"Commander," a female voice from the pilot compartment
called. "We're on approach to the Galactica."
"Good," Adama called. "You five better strap yourselves in."
"Colonel, look!" Sam exclaimed as she buckled her seatbelt.
Jack looked at where she was pointing. Outside was a large
vessel. It gleamed white with a long center section It sprouted out
in the forward section, almost like a lizard's head. On either side
of the center section was a long flat tube with small apertures in
the outward side, and a long aperture in the end closest to the back
of the ship. It was towards one of the long apertures that the
shuttle was headed.
"My word," Jack said. "What is that?"
"I have seen nothing of its like," Teal'c added.
"That is the Battlestar Galactica," Adama said with pride as
the shuttle landed.
Chapter 3.
The five SGC officers stared in wonderment as they were escorted to
quarters on the Galactica. They were simply amazed at the size of
the ship.
"Jack, this ship is incredible. Imagine what a couple of
these could do against the Goa'uld," Daniel said excitedly.
"I would concur that a Ha'tak class warship would be
outmatched by one of these battlestars," Teal'c said. "Although a
Chelops class warship would be able to destroy this ship."
"Such optimism, Teal'c," Jack said. "Let's hope we don't get
a chance to test your theory."
"Agreed."
They walked in silence. An officer in a black uniform lead
the five SGC officers to quarters and stood guard.
"The Commander will be by in a few centars to escort you to
dinner," the blackshirt said. "If you have any questions, feel free
to ask me. My name is Reese."
"Reese," Jack said. "What is a centar?"
"You don't know what a centar is?" Reese chuckled. "It's 100
centons."
"Ah. That clears up everything," Jack rolled his eyes.
Jack closed the door and turned to the other four members of
the SGC.
"Jack, I wish I could be more help with the time units,"
Daniel sighed. "But without a point of reference."
"I know, I know. Without a point of reference, you can't
even make an educated guess."
"I hate to say it, but yeah."
"So what do we do?" Tyran asked.
"We wait for a couple of centars and have dinner," Jack
quipped.
* * *
"Commander?" Tigh asked. "Are they from Earth?"
"They claim to be, Tigh. Perhaps I shall get more
information out of them over dinner."
"You're going to have dinner with them?" Tigh asked
incredulously. "They could be Cylon spies."
"Tigh, I doubt they're Cylon spies," Adama chuckled. "But I
will be careful."
