A girl writes about her feelings in a journal she keeps.
Sometimes people think I am a baby because I cry. But I don't consider myself to be a baby; I just happen to have a very soft and tender side, and when something moves me or upsets me, I cry.

This is Danielle G. Partin, and I am 12 years old. I live in Roanoke, Virginia, with my mom, Kate, my dad, Gus, and my bratty little brother, Owen Patrick. I also have a grandmother, Millie (mom's mom) who lives with us. We don't have any pets.

I am in the sixth grade at Porter Elementary, and my teacher is Mrs. Banks. I do pretty good in all my classes.

I have always had a problem trying to hold back my feelings, especially if I am mad or upset. When I am mad, I want to yell and scream (and sometimes I do, if the situation calls for it, like when my brother bugs me or when I see a kid picking on a smaller or weaker kid or a kid who is handicapped; nothing makes me madder than THAT!), and when I am sad, I always want to cry. I DO cry when I am sad; big old tears will fall from my eyes and down my cheeks, and when I cry, people know it. I am a rather noisy cryer!

Sometimes people (especially the boys in my class) pick on me because I cry so easily, but I can't help it. I feel that crying helps, and when I do it, I always somehow feel a lot better, and I also feel that crying is a lot better than holding your feelings inside and letting them build up until you can't take it anymore. I am a lot like my mother in that aspect; she cries easily, too, and when she or I watch sad movies, we can always be counted on to start blubbering by the time the sad part comes! Now, my dad and my brother do NOT cry much AT all, and the ONLY time my brother cries is when when he gets into trouble (which is often; as I told you earlier, he is a BRAT!) or when he goes to the doctor's office for his allergy shots. Any other time he is too busy being a little pain in my rear, and he drives me CRAZY at times!

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is about crying. Crying is one of the human emotions; ALL humans do it at one time or another! But crying is often frowned upon, and if a kid does it, then right off they are labelled a "Baby"; or if a guy does it, then HE is called a "Sissy" and is often ostracized. I guess this is why NOT many men or boys cry in public because OF this. But I HAVE seen my brother cry, and you DON'T see ME calling him a "Sissy" (but he DOES act like a big baby at times, especially when he has to go to his doctor's appointments or his weekly allergy shots!)! I KNOW better than to upset my brother; and if I don't want to hear him wheezing or gasping, then I'd best shut my mouth and leave my brother alone! But it is sure hard when he is spending a good chunk of his time annoying the poop outta' me!

I also don't see why people get so uncomfortable when people cry. I try NOT to cry, but sometimes I can't help it; and I let loose; and right off people get upset. I am only expressing my sadness or anger when I cry, and I am NOT bothering anyone when I cry! So WHY do people get upset? Heck, it's a LOT better TO cry than to hold everything inside of you, and then you wind up being a cranky, miserable person; and I am sorry, but I DON'T want to BE that way!

Indeed it is OK to cry. But it is something that so many of us find very hard to do (me included)

I hope that this is just a story and not a reflection on yourself. Occasional crying is the bodies way to seek relief from what has hurt us deeply.

It IS okay to cry, I totally agree. I am very prone to crying myself when I get upset, or mad. Great write!!
