The weekend's weather forecast was the basis behind this story. We may be in line for some wintry weather Friday AND Saturday here in North Texas, with *HEAVY SNOW POSSIBLE HERE* on Saturday! (I hope so; so far we have had NO freezing precipitation or SNOW; all we have had so far this winter is RAIN! YUCK!)
Great.
Just what I did NOT want to hear.
The weather forecasters here in Nashville are forecasting stormy weather conditions for our area, starting possibly as early as tonight. We were under winter storm watches, but due to the unexpected rapid intensification of the low that is approaching our area from the southwest, we just may be in line for some serious snowy weather. In fact, they are calling for possible BLIZZARD CONDITIONS for Nashville and surrounding areas, with as much as 1-2 FEET of snow POSSIBLE by Saturday or Sunday!
The weather people on tv are also urging people in the metropolitan Nashville area to stock up on needed grocery items such as milk, bread, eggs, and such, batteries, antifreeze for our vehicles, and so forth. The weather forecasters are also urging everyone to get their gas tanks filled with gas, and to check our oil levels prior to the storm's arrival, so people aren't caught off guard by the approaching storm.
I am home here with the kids (they got out of school early, due to the threatening winter weather that is approaching our area), and my husband is out, doing the shopping, along with Steffi and Barbara. They should be home within the hour, barring traffic or waiting in long lines. I hope they get home soon before the weather turns nasty...It is already starting to rain, and the winds are starting to blow; and it is only supposed to get worse as the low approaches. The winds are forecast to reach at least 60 miles an hour or greater, with extremely heavy snow; and if the low intensifies any more, we just may get a rare weather phenonema known as "thundersnow", which is, basically, a thunderstorm with SNOW instead of rain.
I can tell the low is approaching because Ronee' is really aching. She is sitting on the couch, with heating pads on her arms and shoulders; and she appears to be in a lot of pain. She isn't moving very much, and she is rather grumpy. I can't say I blame her because MY body happens to be screaming obscenities at me, too! It seems people with arthritis, bursitis, or other joint-related problems, or those who have had surgery or broken bones, also feel this pain prior to a storm. I make her some warm soup, to try to take her mind off her achy joints, and I turn on the tv for her. I then check on Johnny, who is in bed, fast asleep. He's been rather sleepy since coming home from school; he had a seizure while at school, and ever since then, he's been rather loopy in nature. I just let him sleep and turn on the monitor, so I can hear him, in case he may awaken.
I then check on the littler kids, and they appear to be engrossed in their play; they don't know of the approaching storm. It is after I check on the kids when I finally hear the sound of Bill's car pulling into the driveway. I look out, and I am relieved to see his car coming into the driveway.
I let Barbara, Steffi, and Bill in, and Barbara and Steffi quickly put away the groceries; and I offer them cups of hot chocolate; it is gettting colder out by the minute, and the wind is starting to gain strength. It is raining still; but it is starting to come down harder.
By evening time, the weather takes a dramatic downhill slide. The rain has turned to sleet; and we can hear the icy drops pelting our windows; and it is coming down at a pretty good clip. We then are momentarily startled by a sudden flash of yellow-white lightning, and then are surprised by the crash of thunder that follows. The wind is howling now; you can hear it moaning outside; and it causes my blood to turn to ice; it sounds so cold, so malicious; and it gives me the creeps. It sounds like something from a horror movie; and it gives me the chills. This is probably the start of the approaching blizzard, and it is a sign that the weather conditions are rapidly deterioating, even as I speak. I am relieved that Bill and the girls are home; and I am relieved that the children are home, safe.
