A young girl writes of a movie that she wants to see, but is upset she can't see it because it is rated "R" due to graphic violence.
As a Christian, I want to see this movie; people just don't realize the meaning behind this film and don't realize the suffering that Jesus Christ went through to save us from sin! I normally do NOT like violence, but this film is an exception because it is based on the Bible, and I want to see it.
I want to see the new movie that Mel Gibson directed; it's called "The Passion of The Christ", but there is ONE problem: I can't see it because I am under the age of 18, and it is rated "R"; no one under 18 can see it without a parent. I am going to be 15 in a little less than a month, and I want to go to the movie; but I can't as I am underage.
The movie deals with the last 12 hours of Jesus' Life before He is Crucified on the Cross; and from what I have heard, the movie is very violent with graphic scenes. Jesus is whipped, beaten, and treated very badly, and from what I hear, the gratuitous violence has upset many people who have seen it; the movie is highly controversial. They say the movie is TOO violent. Maybe so, but I think that movies in the past about Jesus haven't been violent ENOUGH; people just don't realize WHAT Jesus has gone through when He died on that Cross; and past movies had been toned down to where people could handle it. But this movie is far different than past Jesus movies; and there are some pretty gory and disturbing images in this movie.
Maman and daddy went to see the movie today with some of the people from our church (they went on a bus to the theatre, to see it), and I am stuck here at home, babysitting the kids; and I am kind of mad right now because I think I can handle a movie like this. It tells exactly what Jesus must have endured when He was nailed to the Cross and then died; and in the Bible, it says that He was not recognizable to all who knew Him, even His Mother, Mary, and even His Father, God. But Jesus CHOSE to die in this way because He was tired of seeing mankind living in sin and squalor, and He wanted to do something about it; so He chose to die for OUR sins, OUR failures, OUR iniquities. He did this as an act of LOVE for us, and He did this as a supreme sacrifice, in the hopes that we could be FREE from sin. He gave us the option of choosing Him or choosing things of this world; and He said that if we chose Him we would be ASSURED a place in Heaven if ONLY we admitted our sins and asked Him to come into our lives! Yet, even with all the violence that may be in the movie, I still would love to see it, but I can't; and so I am stuck.
I am going to have to ask my parents about the movie and what happened (I know Jesus gets crucified and then dies!), and I am going to have to wait until it comes on video; but if mom and dad are upset about the movie, maybe I won't. I'll just have to wait to see what they thought of the movie; and go from there.
Since last week, our church has been abuzz about this movie, and adult members of the congregation (as well as the pastoral staff) have been eagerly anticipating the start of the movie; and now that it is out, a good portion of the congregation from Christ Community Assembly of God Church is probably camped out at the theater, waiting to see the movie while young people like myself who WANT to see the movie (but CAN'T) are denied that privilege because of the violent nature of the movie. I don't understand what all the fuss is about; it's only about Jesus dying on the Cross for our sins! And what He goes through when he DOES get crucified and then then dies on the Cross! It's in the Bible; WHY are people so upset or up in arms about something that happened, and WHY are they so upset because of the violent nature of the film? Jesus died a very nasty, violent, and horrific death, and too many people DON'T realize JUST what He went through on that Cross!

Karen, my husband and I just bought this movie. When we're having pain or are hurting and want to blame God or lash out at Him, we watch this movie and it reminds us that He isn't our enemy and it's not Him, who hurts or gives pain. This movie shows just how much He cares and loves us. Parents should also take their teenagers to see it. Better yet, they should buy a copy of the movie. Good write.
I am going to see the movie tomorrow, and am ready to see it, but I know its not for the light hearted and I will seriously have to do some praying...

according to the Scriptures, Jesus was beaten beyond human recognition. Why? Didn't God love His Son?
Yes--but "He so loved the world, that He gave..." GAVE!! "...His only Begotten Son, that whomsoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that through Him, the world might be saved." (John 3:16-17).
THAT'S what true passion, true love is. :)

I can't add anything more to your wonderful story. The picture is very violent and not for people with a weak stomach. But that's how christ died, a violent death. People are concerned that it labels some as the killers of Christ. Be assured all our sins are what caused His death not one group or another. All of us are to blame,
