A girl writes on how she copes with disability and other problems of "growing up" in her daily life.
People wonder if I am always this cheerful whenever they see me. (Who do they think they are kidding? They are only kidding themselves; sometimes I can be a regular little WITCH! LOL) Well, folks, it's like this:
Sometimes I have to laugh to keep from crying, and you know something? That is so true ! Especially with MY life. My life is NOT easy, and it is NOT made ANY easier living with pain every day or allergies or having to use walking aids because I can't walk well without them! But still, as bad as I may think I have it, my life is PEACHY KEEN compared to a LOT of people's, so I should NOT be complaining (and I am NOT!)! But at times, I feel AWFUL, and this is when I have my "poor, poor pitiful Ronee'" moments.
Which is why I write.
But today is actually a very good day for me. I am not hurting TOO bad at the moment (my pain has been lowered to a dull roar), and I am feeling quite good physically. I don't feel tired or rundown, and I don't feel short of breath or allergyicious (doubt there is such a word, but it perfectly describes how I feel whenever my allergies bother me! LOL)! I am actually feeling quite good, and you are lucky that I am in a good mood today!
This is Ronee', in case you haven't noticed. I am writing out my thoughts on my computer/journal, like I do from time to time, and I felt like writing today. So...here I be! LOL
One way on how I cope with my physical problems is I pray. I do that...a LOT! It seems that I am always praying, be it at school (nobody knows about it, but I DO, inside my head!), at home, when I am doing my homework or playing with my brothers or sisters, or eating or even taking my medications; whenever I think of doing it, I pray. Doesn't matter what I am doing! If I can make time to pray, I WILL do it! I am a firm believer in prayer, and I KNOW prayer works because it's worked for ME a time or two (or even three!). I know God is there, and that He will NEVER leave me, no matter WHAT I am going through in my life, and be it good OR bad, He is ALWAYS there! He's answered my prayers whenever I needed help (and at times HASN'T, but He WILL in HIS time, NOT mine, like with my Healing! He hasn't done it yet, but He WILL!!).
Another way I cope with my problems is by singing or by listening to music. They say music is good for when you are sick or unhappy, and I also happen to ENJOY music: doesn't matter if it is rap, rock'n'roll, classical, Broadway, or my favorite, country, Cajun, or gospel; as long as it is good and as long as it doesn't have TOO much in the way of foul language, then I will listen to it, and music ALWAYS makes me feel a whole lot better! I also perform for a living (I have two CDS to my name, and I have sung with many of my favorite singers!), and singing in front of people ALWAYS makes me feel good, especially when they smile or clap for me when I am done!
I also like to read (I read anything from children's books or children's nonfiction, and I also read some of mama's medical books or adult books like true -life medical or biographical stuff; I don't do much in the way of mystery/suspense or books that have a lot of cussing in them); I read just about anything I can get my hands on, and I always enjoy it. I also love to draw and write, and I have notebooks full of my artwork or my writings, and I am also in the middle of a book. I am writing a book about me and my life, and I am also writing about how other kids with disabilities or other physical problems can overcome their problems. I have; and I firmly believe that they can do the same with a little help. I am having fun doing this, but if you want to know the truth, writing a book is HARD work; it is NOT as easy as it may appear!
Still a fourth way on how I cope with my physical problems is watch people around me. I am a very good "people watcher"! I see that there are many people who have it so far worse than I EVER will (like my sister, Jodie, or my brothers, Todd, Roberto, or Johnny), and all of a sudden, my problems don't seem NEARLY as bad; so then I feel better about myself and what I have to go through every day, and I then can thank God and count the blessings that He has given to me. I am not NEARLY as bad off as many people are, and for that I can be GRATEFUL!
So there you go. This is how I make the best out of my situation(s) whenever it (they) threaten to get to me. Plus I am only a kid; you can't expect me to be happy ALL of the time! Being a kid is hard enough; now try to add "DISABILITY" or "CHRONIC HEALTH PROBLEMS" to it. (Or PUBERTY". ICK!!) NOT good. But I DO quite well for all what I have to put up with, and I firmly believe that this has made me a better person and has taught me a lot about life. I have been forced to grow up a lot faster than most kids my age, but I still can act like a kid when the moment calls for it, and right now, my life is actually pretty good! (Hope it lasts; I love these "good days", and would LOVE to have a LOT more of them!!)
Thank you for listening to me ramble on. (I do that a lot..."Ramble". LOL) I always enjoy writing, and I will write again soon when the moment calls for it!
C-Ya!
