Dear Ms. Williams:
I heard about you from my maman, Louisiana Sandusky, and I had to write to you after she told me about you.
My name is Ronee' Le-Anne Marie Reaux, and I am 11. I will be 12 on December 25, Christmas Day. (It's a pain having a birthday on a day like Christmas, but things could be worse, you know?? LOL) I am in the fifth grade at Eastview Elementary School, and I love school very much. I am doing very well in school, and I am in the "Kaleidoscope" program, which is a program for Gifted/Talented students.
I was adopted by my maman and my daddy when I was a tiny baby, and I can't imagine my life without them. They have been very good to me, and I love them both very much. I am disabled, but that is okay: at least I am still able to get around, and I can still walk (although on crutches and leg braces; still, it IS better than sitting in a wheelchair all of the time! [I use a wheelchair at times myself.]) I have juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (systemic, meaning my organs, such as my lungs, heart, stomach, etc. can be affected, in addition to my joints; this is known as a "flare" when this happens, and sometimes I can get so sick I end up in the hospital, which is NOT fun!), and I also have allergies and asthma (but I AM glad to say that they are getting better as I get older!). But there ARE still things I have to avoid (like PENICILLIN [and ALL cillins!], beestings, or NUTS of any kind!), and I try my best to avoid these things; or else I can get into SERIOUS trouble!
Did I tell you that I am a twin? I AM! My twin's sister is named Robyn, and although we DO look a LOT alike, people have NO trouble telling Robyn or I apart because she is taller and heavier, and she doesn't walk on crutches or leg braces, like I do. She is NOT disabled (lucky her!), but that is okay. She is still a very good sister, and she and I get along MOST of the time! She also loves rock music while I love country/western, gospel, or Cajun most of all (but I WILL listen to rock, rap, OR classical if I am in the mood to!). As long as it is good, I will listen to it!
How many girls do you have? Do you have any boys in your family? I wish you had some boys in your family because boys aren't all THAT bad! LOL I love both boys and girls, and I have brothers AND sisters in my family! I hear you are getting another little girl from Africa in a few months. That is too cool; I have a brother, Kwame' (he's my youngest brother), who was born there. He was born in Kenya, and he was born a Maasai. (Speaking of the Maasai people, I have friends who ARE Maasai--M'buti, as an example--, and I also have Maasai earrings and a Maasai shuka, plus other Maasai jewelry. I have never been to Africa, but I would love to go someday. I would love to see the Maasai people and the animals in their natural environment. I especially love the cheetahs, which are my favorite animal.) What is your new little African girl's name? How old is she? You will have to tell me about her when you write next time.
What do you like to do, Kendra? I love to sing and play music (I can play the piano, Cajun French accordion, fiddle, banjo, and guitar!), play with my brothers and sisters and my friends, write (I am writing a book about myself!), read (I can read just about ANYTHING excepting for mysteries or horror or murder books...ICK!), draw, and watch tv. I love to watch "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "Rugrats" on Nickolodeon, and I also love "The Wild Thornberrys" on there; and I also watch "Bugs Bunny" and the Christian channels; plus I watch "Star Search" and the country music channels. What do you like to watch on tv, Kendra??
