A young girl in a special family opens up her heart and writes about herself. She is fourteen, and has Down's syndrome.
Some of the words are purposely mispelled, and some of the punctuation is purposely altered for the sake of this story.
Hi! My name's Linda. I am 14 years old, and I am a very good girl. I have a mommy who loves me and my sisters, and she is very good with us kids, she is.
I must tell you I have Down's syndrome, that means I have an extra chromosome (I looked that one up so I could spel it right!), and that caused me to become retarted. I am retarted, and I learn slower than most kids my age. I am more like a littl girl than a teenager girl, and I am in special clases at my school. But I must tell you that I am the bestest reader in my class, my teacher tells me that, and she is so proud of me. My mommy taught me to read good, and right now, my favrite books are Littel Women, Charlott's Web, and The Secret Garden. I also like the Bibble and the Miracle Worker.
I also have a weak heart, and I have had surgry on it, but right now my heart is doing better, I am glad those bad days are behind me. I hated being in the hosptal, and I hated getting pocked and proded by the doctors and nurses! I also hated the I.V.'s and the tubes in me! MOST of the time my heart is okay, but sometimes it acts up, and I get pains in my heart, and I can't breath good, so I have to use oxigen and take medicin to help it. But I AM doing much better, and I know NOT to overdo myself or I can get sick.
I like to go to the gym with my mommy (exercis is good for us, you know, but I can only go on for so long or my heart will hurt, and that isn't good! Still, I have the bestest time!), and I like to read, and I like to play with my ten sisters, and go to church and learn about Jesus Crist; Jesus saved me from sin, and because He is in my heart, I am going to Hebbin and become an angel. At church, I love to sing, and I love to praise and worship the Lord. I also like to watch TV (Scooby Doo and Sue Thomas Privat Eye are my favrite shows on tv), and I also like to draw and color.
I have ten sisters, and we live in California, we live near Jamestown, which is a pretty area. Lots of mountains and trees around us, really nice to look at. I like to watch the birdies flying in the sky, and I specially like the egals. All us girls in our fambly are handicaped, and mommy is handicaped herself, but she loves us enough to take us in to be her kids and love us. I am glad I am her kid because mommy is a very good mommy. We are going to get another girl, she is from Africa, and her name is Anna. I don't know her Africa name, it's THIIIIIIIS LOOOOOOOOOONG, and I can't say it good! LOL So we are going to call he Anna, it's much easier! Mommy was in the hosptal recent, and she had to have surgry on her head, and she is now home, getting better. I was so scared that she would die, but she didn't thanks to our prayers. We even had the church praying for our mommy, and that was what helped her get better and out of hosptal. She has something called hidrosephalis (I can't spel that, so don't ask me to try!), or water head, it means her brain don't drain flooid good, and it can cause her to get bad headcakes. My two younger sisters, Kelly and Kim, have that too, but Kim does't get as bad of headcakes as do mommy or Kelly. They are 11 years old, and one is in a wheelchair, and the other one walks on crutchis and has brases on her legs. They have something called spina bifida, which paralized their spines, and they can't get around good without help.
Well, that is my story, I hope you liked reading about me. I am a prety good writter, as you can see. My speling isn't good, but I still love to write storys and articls and stuff!
Well, mommy wants a glass of water; so I will go now, and I will get her a glass of water, as she is thristy. She is in bed, and she has to take it easy until she sees her doctor, and hopfully she will be able to get up and take care of us girls. I hope so cause Anna will be here in May, and that is only a few monts away from now!
