The Sanduskys on the "high seas." They are on their way to Alaska, where they will be on vacation for two weeks.
Ahoy, Mateys!
This is Louisiana Sandusky writing. I am sitting in our suite on board our ship, and I am watching the kids and just writing on my laptop here.
We are on our way. On our way to Alaska. We will be in Alaska for two weeks; we are on an Alaskan cruise; and so far we have had a good time, but I am sure we will have an even better time once we reach land. We will be on the water at least two more days before we reach land, and until then, there is really nothing to do except sleep, go out to eat in the dining area, go to the game area, or eat yourself halfway to death! LOL Bill is sleeping (as is Ronee'; they are lying on the bed, side by side, and they look absolutely adorable and relaxed), and Johnny is trying not to think about being on board the ship. He's had a rough time of it lately; he has had a bout of seasickness, and he doesn't feel so good now. He is trying to read a book, and trying to keep his mind off how his stomach is feeling. He says he feels a bit better, but I am not so sure about that...he looks a bit green around the gills, and he still looks "sickish" in nature.
We are looking forward to our time in Alaska; and once we get to our port in Sitka, we will get a rental car (rather, VAN!), and we will then drive from Sitka to Anchorage, where we will spend three days at Jenna's place. I will get to see Jenna Whitson and her fiance', Michael Doucet, again, and I am sure that both Jenna and Michael are as excited as we are! I am looking forward to introducing Bill and the kids to Jenna and Michael; they have probably gotten sick of my talking nonstop about them! LOL When we are in Anchorage, I am sure that Michael and Jenna will take us on "the grand tour" and show us Anchorage and take us shopping. I know that they live on Northern Lights Boulevard (that should pique Ronee' 's interest, knowing how much she is into the northern lights; that child has a FIXATION with the northern lights!), but how we get there...we will figure that out once that time comes, and if we should happen to get lost, we can always call Michael and Jenna and ask for directions to the apartment!
Jenna has been home from Tennessee for only just a few weeks now, and she is still receiving daily physical therapy on her arm and leg. She is walking on a walker (she should be graduating to crutches soon), but her arm is still partially paralyzed, and I am sure that this must be preying heavily on her mind. She was an active, happy-go-lucky woman before her accident in Nashville, and now she is facing an uncertain future and certain disability; and it is an issue she must learn to cope with and try to overcome; but if I know Jenna, that should not be too difficult. But like any person facing disability or uncertainty, there WILL be bad days or days where they feel like giving up; and I know how that is because it has happened to me. When I was nine years old, I fell out of a tree and severely injured my back; and I for a month, I was paralyzed; but then I got my feeling back, and I learned to walk eventually (thanks to ongoing physical and occupational therapies). I was on "Canadian" crutches for about two years, but I was walking, and by the time I was a teenager, I was walking WITHOUT the crutches; and I was walking unaided until I got arthritis in my back and then had to resort to using my cane. This is how it is now. I walk still, but I use a cane. (I use a cane to help take pressure off my back and sciatic nerve, and it really helps if I have to do a lot of extra walking, like at work, for example.)
The weather is cool, and according to the captain, the temperature in Sitka is in the forties. It's a good thing we packed some winter clothes. It isn't exactly warm in Alaska, and I am afraid the closer we get to Alaska, the colder it will be, so we are dressed accordingly. The weather is also cloudy and misty out, really miserable weather; but I am still in a good mood, and I am glad to be embarking on this forthcoming Alaskan Adventure!
I will write more when we get to Sitka. Bill and Ronee' both just woke up, and they both have announced that they are hungry, so I will have to take them to get some "grub" (besides, it is time for Ronee' and Bill to take their medications!). I will also try to convince poor, sick Johnny to try to eat; don't want him getting dehydrated, you know... Until then, this is Louisiana saying "Over and Out!"
~Love, Louisiana Sandusky (on board the Disney Cruise Ship, enroute towards Alaska!). :)
The hot summers are soon setting in here...time to pack my bags and take a cruise to Alaska...if only I could afford it:)
Love how you bring out the best in people,Karen. Wonderful diary.

Good Morning Karen....wonderful write. Been along that west coast in upper B.C. and it is beautiful. As I told Karla, anytime you want to view those northern lights from the north, you let me know. It ain't Texas, but it's big LOL
Your stories are always refreshing and come from a beautiful mind that explores the lives of children who are not blessed with good health but who use their God given talents to overcome their physical handicaps.
