Jenna Whitson can't contain her excitement at the thought of meeting Louisiana Sandusky's husband, Bill, and her kids, Ronee' and Johnny, who are all on their way to Alaska via ship.
I don't know who is more excited...I or Michael!
We are waiting for some friends who are on their way to Alaska by way of a huge ship; they are on a cruise to Alaska, and they will be on this cruise for two weeks. My friends' names are Louisiana Sandusky, her husband, Bill, and two of their children, Johnny and Ronee', who are both 11 years old (but are NOT twins; the kids are both adopted). I just found out about this only last week, and both Michael and myself are besides ourselves with sheer excitement!
I am now home from the hospital, and am back in my natural habitat here in Anchorage, Alaska, but I have to go to Anchorage Regional Medical Center for ongoing physical and occupational therapies; and I am so tired now it is all I can do to keep FROM falling fast asleep, especially if I am doing something! Therapy is so hard and stressful, and it is a wonder if I ever WILL get the full use of my leg or arm again! I CAN walk with a brace on my leg and a walker; but it is so tiring, and it doesn't take long before I am completely spent and exhausted! And the medication they have me on at the present time is wrecking my appetite, and nothing, not even my favorite foods, has any appeal to me. Everything tastes so bland and yuck, and it is all I can keep from wanting to throw up because it is like I am eating CARDBOARD! I am doing well at my walking, but my arm is still functionally useless, and it is discouraging at best. I already have to live with deafness (something I have had to live with all my life), and I have tried hard to "not look handicapped"; but with this brace on my leg and using this stupid walker, it's like people see me right off, and they stare and make comments. I know they do because I can see their lips moving or their eyes gravitating towards me, and I feel absolutely foolish!
Michael, the poor dear, has been a huge blessing: he has been helping me get settled in my apartment, and he has been waiting on me hand and foot, to make sure I have everything I need, and he has even taken some time off (paid, by the way) so he can take care of me until I am back on my feet and am feeling better. Right now I feel pretty lousy, and it is going to have to take every bit of his knowhow to try to amuse me because right now I am having a hard time trying to accept my damaged arm and leg and not walking or getting around as well as I did prior to the accident last November.
I DO hope that Louisiana can handle my witchy moods; I have been a NANUQ as of late! LOL I also hope that her kids aren't hyper; if there is one thing I really can't handle right now, it is kids bouncing off the walls! I DO know that Johnny and Ronee' ARE older than nine, so they shouldn't be TOO bad! I also know that both Johnny and Ronee' are disabled: Johnny is in a wheelchair because of muscular dystrophy, and he also has epilepsy and sometimes has seizures, and his sister, Ronee', has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and is often in a lot of pain. She sometimes uses a wheelchair if she is hurting badly, but she usually gets around by way of leg braces and forearm crutches, and she gets around quite well, so I have heard. She also has asthma and allergies, but as she gets older, she is having fewer problems with her breathing; but she still has to be careful when it comes to bees or accidentally eating peanuts or foods with nuts in it as part of the ingredients. She can get deathly sick in just a few minutes if she is stung by a bee or accidentally eats peanuts or foods that have nuts in them; but if she doesn't, then she is okay MOST of the time. GREAT. As if I don't have more than enough to worry about on my plate already in regards to MY troubles: now I have to worry about two kids, too! This does NOT sound at ALL good!
Louisiana has reassured me that her kids are good kids (I bet ALL mothers say that about their kids, even if they are HEATHENS!), and that they are no trouble; but somehow, my inner being isn't very convincing. I am trying NOT to think of Johnny or Ronee' 's health woes, but I can't help myself. I wouldn't know what to do if Johnny were to have a seizure or if Ronee' were to have an asthma attack; I am NOT very well versed when it comes to epilepsy or asthma attacks!
Michael tells me to quit worrying about the kids so much and focus on JENNA; he says I worry too much as it is! He says I am making him a nervous wreck, and if something WERE to happen regarding Johnny OR Ronee' while they were with us, I don't think I would EVER forgive myself!
Michael and I have been busy scratching our heads and trying to come up with some plans for the Sanduskys once they come to Anchorage. Some of the things we have managed to come up with include taking them to the Heritage Museum and the Northern Lights movie that is being shown at one of the local downtown movie theatres, taking them shopping at one of Anchorage's finest malls, and taking them to the Alaska Zoo, so they can see the animals. (Kids like that stuff...looking at animals; so I am sure that Johnny and Ronee'--and even Bill and Louisiana--will like the zoo.) We will probably take them to several more places before they have to get back on the ship and continue on with their cruise. They will only be in Anchorage for three days at best, so we have to cram a lot of activity in just three short days; so if I am going to have to be acting as tour guide, along with Michael, then I think it is best that I try to get some rest while I still can function; otherwise, I wouldn't be worth anything more than a dead seal! LOL We have also been busy straightening up the apartment and trying to whip it up into shape before the Sanduskys arrive; and hope that it looks halfway decent for them! I am sure they wouldn't want to stay in a messy pig-sty!
I will write more soon; but I had to tell you about how thrilled we are to have the Sanduskys staying with us when they come to Anchorage! I can HARDLY wait to see Louisiana again, and I am REALLY looking forward to meeting her husband, Bill, and her kids, Johnny and Ronee'!
Maybe having the Sanduskys will make me forget of my OWN problems for a while! I certainly hope so because lately I have been feeling pretty AWFUL and exhausted on TOP of feeling AWFUL!! And maybe Michael can FINALLY get the rest he deserves: he has been running himself RAGGED, and I am getting concerned about him....
