Our friend, Pulalay Khelefi, drops in for a spell and lets us know how she is faring. She is now working, and she has converted from the Islamic faith to Christianity, much to the chagrin of her surviving family members back in Sudan.
Hello! Do you remember me? If not, I shall let you know, and what has been up with me.
My name is Pulalay Khelefi. Pulalay Halah Khelefi is my whole name, but most everyone I meet calls me Pulalay. I was born in Sudan, in North Africa, and I came to America to escape the strife and turmoil of my country. I came to America to start a new life; but soon, trouble found me. I was shot in the back by a man who thought I was stealing; and now I am paralyzed from the waist on down. I walk on crutches for short trips, but I mostly use a wheelchair.
But I am not bitter, not anymore at least. I WAS bitter, but then I found Jesus Christ, and I have learned to forgive the man who shot me; and I am happier now than I have ever been in my life; and for the first time, I feel happy and at peace. I know Jesus will take care of me, and that no matter what I may go through in life, He will NEVER, EVER leave me, and He will always help me if I just learn to call on Him or learn to trust in Him!
I was born a Muslim; I followed the Islamic faith; but then a friend recently invited me to her church, and I learned of Jesus; and I wanted to be happy, so I went up for prayer, and I asked Jesus to come in; and now He is inside me. I can't see Him, but I know He is inside me because I am happier now, and I know that with His help, I will make it through! It was hard trying to learn of Jesus and what He did for mankind, but I had help from friends, and now I have learned that my former faith isn't as peaceful or as serene as most people think. There is a lot of darkness in Islam, and they twist things around to the way they want it to be, and there is a lot of hatred in it; so I decided to leave. I also wanted to leave because of the terrorists, and I didn't want to be a part of something that was associated with or supported terrorism, so I left. (My life is now in danger because I have friends and surviving family members who don't want me to leave Islam; but I had no choice; and now they are threatening to kill me. They heard that I was now a Christian, and they say they will kill me if they find me. I am very worried, yes, but I know that I will get through this, and I know that God won't let harm befall me as I have friends who are praying for me and are very supportive of me.)
I am still living at the YWCA, and I am working at a small office as a person who answers phones a few days a week. It doesn't pay all that much; but it is better than NOT working, and I AM able to pay my bills; so I should be grateful for that! My friends from church and from my work come by to check on me, and I am always glad to see them. They talk with me, and they pray with me, and they let me know that they are there if I need anything, which I really appreciate!
I have heard from my friend Louisiana Sandusky, and she is well; but she was ready to leave for a cruise to Alaska the last time I spoke with her. That was during the beginning of April; so I assume that she is on her cruise now. I hope she is having a good time. I hate not hearing from her! Maybe she will write me; I hope so! I will have to check my mail later to see if I have heard from her. She went on a cruise with her husband, Bill (he is very nice!) and two of her children. It's a family cruise they went on, and I bet they are all having fun! (I say good for her on her vacation; I have always thought she worked too hard at the hospital anyway!)
I have also heard from my cousin in Kenya; she is doing well, and she is a Christian too. She is happy that I accepted Christ into my life, and she said that she will pray for my safety too. I hope I remain safe; I hate this fear of worrying about whether I will be attacked by terrorists because I now live in America!
The man who shot me is now in jail; he was found guilty of his crime, and he will be in jail for a very long time. I am glad because if it were not for him I would still be able to walk, and I would be able to do a lot of things for myself! But as I said earlier, I have learned to forgive the man, and I have learned that it is not good to hold a grudge or not to forgive those who have hurt you; so I have made peace within myself, and I am much better off.
I will let you go now; I have to get back to work. I was on lunch break, and I figured that while I had some idle time on my hands, I'd better let you know how I am doing, because for one thing, I am bored! LOL It is about time for the "get back to work!" whistle blows, so I had better do that before my boss catches me and I am fired because of it! I will write more later!
Great change of faith story Karen. Makes one think about all the different religions. I don't think I could ever change. I'm neutral when it comes to God. I feel we're all on the same train but traveling in different cars. mlf bm G
