Jenna Aurora Whitson from Alaska writes a letter to her new little friend from California.
Dear Anna Grace Williams:
You sound like a very sweet little girl; you remind me a lot of the little girl I recently met, Ronee' Le-Anne Reaux, who lives in Tennesseee, but was recently here in Alaska.
You certainly are smart like Ronee'; Ronee' may be only 11, but she is more like an adult in her intelligence. She knows things that even I, an adult, don't know; she makes me look STUPID!!
You are seven, you say?? Well, you certainly are very smart, and for having been in America since nearly a week ago, you speak English quite well! I am really happy for you; and I hope nothing but good things for you and your life here in America!
In answering your questions, I was hurt in a car accident, which is why I can't move my one hand well (I type and do most things with my other hand; it is really hard at times!) and can't walk without a brace on my one leg. It has been very hard for me to try to accept my disabilities because I am one of these people who are proud, and I already live with disability (I am deaf; I was born deaf); and now I am afraid that people will stare or make comments. That makes me very uncomfortable. I hear you lost your legs; and I am so sorry you did; but from the way things sound, it sounds like you are getting along quite well on crutches! I am happy for you; and I hope you continue to DO well in your therapy and in your walking!
Alaska IS very cold, but not here in Anchorage, where I live. Here in Anchorage it is in the 50's to 60's. That is normal for us; but in the summer we usually don't get any higher than the 70's; to us, 80 degrees is HOT! But in Barrow, Alaska, waaay up north (that is where I was born), it is in the TEENS now; it stays cold up that way most of the year; and summers there are for but a few weeks at the most; and snow is around most of that time. You wouldn't like it in Barrow; but it is something I am used to. I like Barrow; to me, ANCHORAGE is too warm for my Inuit blood! LOL
I wish I could believe in God, but the truth is, I DON'T. Oh, I KNOW there IS a God, but I just don't believe in Him. Neither does Michael, my fiance' (husband to be). We believe more in spirits (me) or nature (Michael); and while it IS nice to have people praying for us, we both feel that now isn't the best time to bring up God or religion to us because of what has happened to me. I find it hard to believe in God when so many bad things have happened to me recently, and I find it hard to believe in God when there is so much hate and ugliness in the world, and I don't understand why there must be all this grief when God could come down and take care of things instead of watching us suffer! I find it hard to believe in God because if there WAS a God, there wouldn't be wars, there wouldn't be terror, there wouldn't be so many people sick or dying of horrible diseases or accidents, there wouldn't be people living on the streets or people struggling to make ends meet or people who are crippled or whatever! If there WAS a God, there wouldn't be these things! Do you understand what I am trying to say??
I find it hard to trust in someone like God when we have had so much hurt or pain recently, and to me, Salvation is still a foreign concept, or an idea I don't understand. How can we be happy when there is so much ugliness in the world, and how can one Person take our sins and save us from them? Why would anyone even DO this?? I just don't understand Jesus or who He is, or even who GOD is, and right now, I am having a hard time believing. I don't mean to upset you, honey, but this is how I happen to feel, and I can't help myself at times!
Well, Anna, I do believe I have bored you long enough, so I will let you go. I will write again when I hear from you, and I hope that life continues to be good for you and your family. I shall pray to my spirits over you and hope nothing but the best for you adn your family! Until I hear from you, be well, and be blessed!
Love, your friend in Alaska, Jenna Aurora Whitson.
Good story Karen, the young man that works for me doesn't believe either. But he acknowledges that there could be a God. I guess we all have out faiths. I love believing, it makes me feel good. Lovefrbm G
