Julie's Story, Part Three: Struggling With Anorexia Nervosa (By Her Mother) by Karen Lynn Vidra, The Texas Tornado

Julie Mae Uecker, the young teen with anorexia nervosa, continues her battle with this puzzling and frightening disorder that commonly affects young teenage girls (and now boys). Her mother, Dory, has written the following story, for Julie Mae is currently in the hospital, fighting for her life. She had a massive heart attack brought on by the anorexia nervosa and is currently in Intensive Care, in critical condition.
I can't believe this is happening, especially to my daughter! This shouldn't be, and I am now numb with shock I can't seem to think (or see) straight!
Julie, my teenaged daughter with anorexia nervosa has gone too far, this time, I am afraid, and now she has wrecked her health with her silly games; and I have been powerless to stop her games or to convince her that she was never really as "fat" as she made herself to be in her mind, and to get her to eat sensibly! She is now in the Intensive Care unit here at Nashville Memorial Hospital, where she is fighting for her very life; and right now, things don't look at ALL good.
Julie is in critical condition, and there is talk that she may have done irreperable damage to her heart and other internal organs from her constant dieting; and now she may end up dying because of her stubborn nature. I feel it is all my fault, and I wish I could have been there to help her, or to stop her from harming herself! I don't know what I need to do to convince Julie that she is only endangering her life with all this stupid dieting, and that she is as beautiful now as she ever was and that she really never needed to lose all this weight! Now she weighs only 80 pounds (IF that!), and she looks like a skeleton; and now she hovers near death; and there is nothing that I can do to change things short of a Miracle or praying to God to spare her young life!
I just saw her in the ICU, in the Cardiac Care unit, and she is lying so still in the bed, white as death, and tubes and all sorts of lines and shit attached to her still, unmoving form; and to see her in such a helpless state frightens the hell out of me! She just came into the hospital this morning, after I found her in bed, not breathing; and it took paramedics to revive her; and now she is in the ICU, fighting for her very life. She appears to have suffered a massive heart attack, and there is no telling what sort of "damage" she may have done to herself, thanks in part to this crazy notion of her being too fat or her crazy eating habits! Now she may die, and I feel at a loss as to how to help her or how to help myself or Harold (my husband) lest she were TO die!
The nurses have been trying to reassure me that my daughter is in good hands (one little nurse in particular has especially been kind and caring), but seeing my baby girl lying there, looking more dead than alive, with no sign of movement from her person, doesn't seem to help my frame of mind any. I am so scared that she is going to end up dying anyway from this evil disorder called anorexia nervosa, and I am scared of losing my baby forever!

I feel sorry for Julie's mother, a mother I can understand what she's going through seeing her daughter waste herself away in this way. Good piece on the evils of anorexia nervosa, Karen!

Oh anorexia nervosa one of the most saddest thing that could ever happen to anyone....just to be in "Style " could kill you...and usually pushed over the edge by a inconsidered person!!
anorexia nervosa, and its companion, bulemia, are horrible conditions, too many young women (and men) are starving themselves to look perfect, and ruining their health in the process--thank you for educating us on these insidious killers of body and soul
