I wrote about Kennedy Harminder Ryan Morganstern, aged 3, earlier here at Authorsden. This story is about his younger sister, who came from Vietnam.
Sweet Harmony is a perfect description of the little girl with the straight, silky-soft black hair, pretty bow lips, and sparkly uptilted eyes: she is a sweet-natured child, and she loves to try to sing whenever music, be it classical, country, rock, or gospel, is played.
Sweet Harmony is two years old, adorable, and perfectly healthy; the only reason she was adopted from the faraway country of Vietnam is because she had been born a girl; and girls aren't very highly valued in the Asian nations such as China or Vietnam. Her brother, Kennedy Harminder Ryan, is just one year older, and he just joined the family back in March from an orphanage in India; and now as a result, she has a big brother she has come to know and play with.
Kennedy is a child who has obvious health problems: he is spastic in his limbs, and he is in a wheelchair now; but doctors ARE hopeful that he WILL learn to walk with braces and/or crutches if he continues to progress at the rate he is; he is overcoming his disabilities, slowly, but surely, and things that were once impossible for him to do are now becoming easier and easier. Therapy to him doesn't mean work: it just means more opportunity for him to play, and to meet people, and nothing could make him happier!
Sweet Harmony isn't disabled; at least not on the outside; but she DOES have some "developmental delays" from her being adopted into another country by a family she didn't even know; and things are still rather unfamiliar with her at times. She is usually a happy, outgoing little girl, but if she goes to a strange place, she turns quiet and clingy, and she has been known to raise a huge fuss, especially if her mama, Nancy, or her daddy, Ron, aren't in plain sight.
The Morganstern family lives in Palo Alto, California; the family is comprised of Nancy and Ron, the parents, and the two children, Kennedy Harminder Ryan, aged 3, and Sweet Harmony Elizabeth, who is one year younger at the age of two. The family is also the proud owners of a very large and loveable black and white English sheepdog named "Sparky", whom the children both adore and torment (although, at first, Kennedy was petrified at the huge beast's size).They have also since acquired a huge tortoiseshell Maine Coon cat they have named "Catty". "Catty" is different colors: red, orange, brown, tan, and black, with white on all four paws and on her chest and stomach; and she has huge, green eyes.
Sweet Harmony is like most toddlers her age: she loves dollies of any size or shape, her toy animals (in which she has nightly conversations with when she goes "to-bet" [to bed]), and she won't sleep unless her mommy or daddy read her a story, tuck her in, kiss and hug her goodnight, or leave the night light on. She also loves to play dress up and pretend with her brother and mommy and daddy, and she loves to color and learn about the exciting world about her. She has adjusted very well since her arrival from Vietnam, and other than a few developmental problems that are benefitting from weekly therapy, she is almost right on target with most kids her age.
