Ronee' tells about her dislike for animals of the spidery kind. (A friend of hers got bitten by a brown recluse and is in the hospital recovering.)
ICK. Spiders. Who NEEDS 'em?? I certainly don't, especially since I just found out that my friend, America, got bitten on the leg by one; and now she is in the hospital. She is very sick, according to her mom, and she got bitten three times.
She was at home, in bed, when the spider got her; only she didn't know it, and in the morning, she was surprised to find her leg hurting; and when she looked at her leg, to see why, she was surprised to find three blistery-looking things on her leg; she told her mom that the wounds itched, and hurt at the same time. As the day went on, she started feeling sickish, and started throwing up; this was when her mom took her to the emergency room. She was then admitted.
How long America will be in the hospital, I have no clue; but I got on the computer just before and was looking up information regarding the spider (her mom said it was a small light brown spider with a "fiddle" on its back and it had long legs); and I learned that it was called the brown recluse, or "fiddle-backed spider"; and that it was common across a lot of the country (especially in the south, where I happen to live...GREAT. Just what I did NOT want to hear!), and a lot of the time, people don't even know they got bitten until afterwards, and by then, the poison has started to do its dirty work. The bite from the brown recluse spider is highly toxic, meaning it can do a lot of damage if help isn't made available as soon as possible!
I guess I won't be going near any fiddle-backed spiders: see, I am highly allergic to any insect or bug bite, and especially bites from snakes or spiders; and also stings from bees, wasps, hornets, and yellowjackets. I guess if I happen to get bitten by a brown recluse spider, that means I am HISTORY!! NOT good!! :(
Oh, I hope that America will be okay...I hated hearing that she got bitten by a spider..and just as summer vacation was starting for her!
I will write again soon; I saw a great movie, "Shrek 2" earlier today, and it was HILARIOUS!!

I suspect this may have been inpsired by Karla's recent close encounter.
People like me have no real inkling of what it is like to live with venomous spiders. The biggest ones I have seen in my country are no more than 1 inch in diameter ... and they certainly don't bite !!
That said, I do remember being in Florida last year and spotting a large snake making it's way across the tiles at the side of the swimming pool at the hotel. A local Floridian was quite horrified that I casually walked across to it, picked it up and put it back in the bushes out of harms way. It was only after I had moved the snake that this Floridian informed me that it was actually venous and quite deadly ... ooerrrr !!
Sorry to hear that you are allergic to insect bites, Ronee. And I truly hope America recovers quickly.
Luckily, I'm not allergic to them, or I would be in big trouble. I have probably gotten stung and bitten by almost every bug that flies, walks, or slithers. But I guess I deserve it; since I'm so curious about them, and I go poking my head into places I shouldn't.
