Jenna Aurora Whitson isn't feeling her best today. She has a pinched nerve in her back. She got it when she fell during her therapy session yesterday.
I don't know whether to cry or SCREAM!!
Ever since I accidentally fell during my therapy yesterday, I have had sharp, stabbing pains shooting up and down my spine; and the pain is so intense it is enough to take my breath away!
After the fall, I was taken to the X-ray area, where I was immediately placed into the MRI machine (that did NOT bode very well with me; I am HUGELY claustrophobic!), and after an hour of having to endure being strapped in place on a bed and put into this teeny, teeny-tiny little opening (I was given a sedative upon learning that I needed the MRI, and it helped a LITTLE; but I was still quite petrified!), I was told that I had a pinched nerve in my lower back. I somehow dislocated a disc in my back, and it was pressing on a nerve in my back. This was what was causing the severe pain I was currently experiencing. They said that I would need appropriate physical therapy and biofeedback to help me deal with the pain, but if the therapy or biofeedback did NOT help, there was a chance that I would need surgery to help take the pressure off that nerve and to repair the dislocated disc in my back.
If I didn't have the surgery, I would eventually become totally paralyzed.
GREAT. Just the news I did NOT want to hear. I just got out of the hospital earlier this year after being in there from November until March due to a bad car accident that left my one side damaged; and now I am facing the possibility of MORE surgery, MORE hospitalization, MORE torture?? I was NOT happy at the news, and ever since, I have been very depressed!
It seems that everything bad happens to me. First the accident, then coming to terms with further disability, and learning to live life as a partially paralyzed person; and now this. I have a slipped disc in my back, and it is pressing on the nerve; and if I don't get it taken care of as soon as possible, there is a chance that I could be totally paralyzed and totally dependent on a wheelchair.
Michael has tried to be supportive of my situation, but it seems that I have been ugly towards him. I know he means well, but every time he tries to lift me or move me, all it does is cause severe pain coarsing through my body, and it is enough to make me throw up at times! The stupid pain has all but wrecked my appetite, and no matter how I position my body, I can't seem to get any relief! It is like someone taking a hammer and slamming me right in the lower back, constantly, or lightning continually striking the same spot in my back, with no let up in between. Every time I DO finally get comfortable, it is time for me to move again, and when I do, the pain returns, worse than ever before! I have not been very nice towards Michael, and frankly, I don't know HOW he puts up with me!
I wouldn't wish this kind of pain on ANYONE, and unless you are in my shoes you can't POSSIBLY understand the pain I am in or how my back feels! I wish for some relief, but so far NOTHING has helped! I don't know HOW I am going to endure therapy when the pain is so bad now, and I don't know HOW I am going to handle the possibility of yet more surgery and then the long recovery process! Oh, woe is me!!
And just wait until my friends in Tennessee and California hear about THIS! They are NOT going to be at ALL happy!!
~Love, Jenna. :( >tears< (of pain and frustration!)
