Because I was born in autumn time, I love anything pertaining to autumn. In honor of the leaves that fall, I wrote this about a leaf for my students at the YWCA off-track class. I was teaching them creative writing.
I awaken to the whispers of an eager zephyr breeze. It shakes me, revives my listless body. I quiver from the chill it brings forth to my fragility. With a slight, twisting motion, I stretch and face the blinding sunlight that's winking from the blue sky over my head. Nomadic clouds are walking and roaming by in that infinite blue square in search of a place to come to rest.
Suddenly, I feel the irresistible urge to leap from my perch and sail like that that bird that now streaks across the face of the sky. Yet I haven't any wings. But it doesn't matter. The breeze seems just as eager as I am for me to fly. It gives me a light shove and I leap away gracefully.
I am airborn! The current of wild wind rushes through me, around me. It tosses me about in light jest and I make the most of the moment I now have in the air by dancing a minuet. I twirl and flutter with delight at being free. I sail across the jade-green lawn as easily as an eagle does over a canyon.
Ever so easily now, I touch the ground lightly, my flight now overwith. The discontented wind nudges me and I am prompted to swim in the laughing stream nearby.
One moment like a great bird, the next like a little ship--sailing through the air and then on sun-warmed water. Sailing to a destination I cannot determine. My home upon the tree lost to me forever.
I am just a leaf.

I loved this! It was so imaginative! Personification was my FIRST REAL attempt at writing...our assignment in fifth grade was to personify a pumpkin during Halloween time...and I loved it! My teacher loved it too and told me I would be a great writer some day. :-) Keep up the good work!!! April
What a marvelous piece, your use of imagery is wonderful. I liked "Nomadic Clouds" it made me want to go see if the gypsy caravens were passing accross the sky.
Interesting and very entertaining write! I have thought about doing something like this, but haven't done so! Will have to put on my thinkin' cap to see what I can come up with! Well done!
