A young Cajun girl lets us know what has been up with her this summer. Happily, aside from a few health situations and a storm that cancelled her performing at a festival on July 4th, she has had a busy, fun summer.

This is Ronee' Le-Anne Marie Reaux writing. I really haven't let y'all know what has been up with me this summer, so I am about to let y'all know now!
I have had a fairly active and busy summer. I did some performance dates in Louisiana (Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival in Breaux Bridge, Mulate's in Breaux Bridge, and performed at the Cajun Heritage Festival in Lake Charles) and Tennessee (did a show at OpryMills here in Nashville; also sang at some nursing homes and sang at Vanderbilt's Children's Hospital for the sick children; that was a blast!), and sang at my church, Christ Community Assembly of God. I will be performing some more dates in Louisiana come September, and I may be trying out for the new TV show, "America's Most Talented Kid" on the PAX tv network (but so far, the final details haven't been worked out). I also will be performing at LeCajun in Lafayette, Louisiana, in later August, and will do the memorial service for the September 11, 2001, terror attack victims (here in Nashville), and maybe some more Cajun thingies; but like the "America's Most Talented Kid" deal, most of this hasn't been ironed out as of yet.
Besides performing, I have been spending a lot of time playing and chillin' out with my friends and family, and I have just generally been enjoying life. It has been a little over a year since I had my knee surgery, and things have been doing great with my knee. No pain whatsoever in my knees, and I am walking so well I could almost go without my crutches! LOL But I don't walk THAT well; I still need my sticks to help me get by, or I will bust my yoyo if I were to accidentally fall. OW! PAIN LINES! LOL Makes me hurt just THINKIN' of it! LOL
My health, as a rule, has been behaving itself lately, but a few days prior to my half-birthday party, I DID manage to have a conversation with a bee (the bee won; the bee ALWAYS wins, darn it!), and that put me into the hospital for a few days; but I DID get out in time to have the party, and we had fun. We also went to the Nashville Fourth of July BLAST! Celebration and Festival, and I got to sing a FEW songs (but couldn't do my set because a sudden durecho came in and canceled my set) prior to the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and the fireworks. So it wasn't a TOTAL loss! My asthma has been behaving (excepting for when I got hit by that darn bee!), and my arthritis has managed to stay below a dull roar; no major flares to speak of (KNOCK ON WOOD; hope this does NOT happen! I HATE flares!! GRRR!!). Right now I am probably enjoying my best year when it comes to my health: I have only had to go to the Emergency Room once and had only two hospitalizations (once in January for a flare, and the asthma episode in June), and I haven't fallen or broken any bones! LOL (Hope I DON'T! Then I will have to wheelchair it again, like I did last year!)
I also spent a lot of time swimming, and next month is my arthritis camp at Camp SteppingStone, where I can spend time with my best bud, Nicole, and my other friends! I always have the best time at camp, and it is always a huge highlight of my summer!
I got an early start on my vacation back in April. As you know, maman, daddy, Johnny, and myself went to Alaska for two weeks, and other than daddy getting sick and being in the hospital for a few days, we had a blast. We saw and did many interesting things, and I got to see the Northern Lights and meet maman's friends Jenna and Michael, which was probably the biggest highlight of our trip! I still have my Inuit doll that I got at the Inuit Festival we went to, and I still have my parka, but it is too warm to wear now. If we have a colder than normal winter here in Nashville, then I can bundle up, and I won't have to WORRY about my danged ol' arthritis acting up! I am counting the days to where we can go BACK to Alaska! I really would love to go back there!
I would also like to go to Africa, but that is another story. I don't relish the thought of having to get shots prior to going, or the fact that there are wild animals about! But it still would be nice to see the cheetahs and the Maasai and get to experience the Maasai culture firsthand! That would be too cool! I could even maybe learn some more Swahili and even learn Maa!
Well, that is what I have been up to. Thank you for allowing me to write! I am glad to let y'all know what I have been up to because brother, I have been one busy little girl!
Maybe I (and my Cajun accordion) will see you down the road somewhere. I hope so; I LOVE meeting new people!

P.S.: I sent the finalized manuscript for my book out; am waiting to hear from them. Well, no news is good news. Maybe by the next time you hear from me, I will become a published author! I hope so; that would be too cool! :)
