A little boy writes about the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, which start today, and about other things.
Today, on August 13, 2004, the Olympics have officially begun. They are being held in Athens, Greece, which is considered to be the "Birthplace of the Modern Olympics". The Olympics were first held in Greece waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back then (before I was even born or thought of! LOL), and they have been held in places like Helsinki, Finland, Sydney, Australia, Berlin, Germany, Munich, Germany (my old stompin' grounds!), the United States (Atlanta, Georgia, and Los Angeles, California), and Oslo, Norway, among other places. You can bet I will be watching; I have always enjoyed the Olympics, and I hope that the United States does well and brings home the gold! :)
This is Johnny, in case you haven't already figured that out. I wrote the other day about the Olympics, and also about mama being sick. She had a bad sinus infection along with a migraine headache, but I am happy to say that she is all better now and is now back at work. She went back to work on Wednesday, and she worked on Wednesday, yesterday, and today, and then she is off until Monday. (She works five days a week at her job, and she usually works days, but there have been times where she has had to work double shifts and work both the day and night shift!)
I am sitting here in my room, waiting for the start of the Olympics. The Olympics have already started, but the opening ceremonies won't be shown here in America until 7 tonight, and it will be on for four hours. I always enjoy the Olympics, but this year I am a little sad because I don't think I will be around for the next Olympic games (winter OR summer). I am not expected to live beyond the age of 13, and that has me bummed out BIG time. But I will try to enjoy the Olympics while I still can, so I won't let this bother me (but on the inside, I can't help but to feel a bit sorry for myself for having this stupid muscular dystrophy! GRRR! I HATE having this stupid MD! It has really put a big cramp in my life, and I wish I could just get RID of it and FORGET about it!)
The other night (Wednesday night/early Thursday morning) we saw the Perseid meteor shower. They were nothing short of spectacular, and we counted as many as 100 meteors in an HOUR! That is a LOT of meteors! Some of them were really bright, and to see them streaking across the night star-lit sky startled me because I didn't expect them to move so fast! They were really quick! It was like one minute they were there, and the next..POOF! They were HISTORY! Of course, Ronee' was all excited; she loves that outer space stuff. She should be an ASTRONAUT! She has always loved everything to do with outer space, and she is crazy about the Northern Lights! I sometimes tell Ronee' that if she likes the Northern Lights so much, maybe she ought to live in ALASKA! LOL
My sister (Ronee') sent off her manuscript for her book, "People Say No, But God Says YES!: My Story", but she hasn't heard anything. I hope she gets published; that would be too cool! I know if she isn't, she will be very disappointed; she really worked hard on her book, and if she were to get rejected, I would feel sooo bad for her! I would love to write a book about myself, too, but I wouldn't know what to say or how to put it, and if I did, it would come out sounding all wrong! I am NOT that good at writing, and I am not the genius, here! Ronee' is the genius; I am just...well, average! But maybe I will get brave enough and attempt to write a book about myself, but I will tell you this much: it probably won't be no best seller, that is for DARN tootin' sure! :(
School starts in a few weeks, I can't wait! I will be in the fifth grade, and my teacher will be Miss Traylor. I hear she is very nice. She will work with the kids who are multiply handicapped, kids like myself. I love summer vacation, don't get me wrong, but I am ready to get back to school!
Muscular Dystrophy camp went well; but it rained a lot of the time I was there, and that kinda' ruined things. I saw a lot of my buddies there, but then again, I saw some (like George, Willie, Tyler, and Damien, as several examples) who weren't there, and they had been at MD camp the year before. They either got worse, or else they died; and that made me a bit sad. It seems that every year, there's less campers that I know, and there are more new ones to get to know, and that really bothers me.
We had to take my helping dog, "Ginger", to the vet; she got a hold of some chocolate, and it made her very sick. For a while, we thought that she was going to be a goner, but they managed to save her life, and she should be coming home in a few days. I hope so; I really miss her. I was so scared when she got sick because she is my helper, and without her, I am LOST! She is at the local animal hospital, on IV's and stuff, and she seems to be doing better, according to her doctor (and mommy and daddy, who have been keeping me updated about her). I wish she were home because I miss her so much when she isn't here!
That is about all that is new with me. I will write more in a day or two (or maybe three, depending on what happens in the Olympics. I will be watching the Olympics very regularly!). I hope that I have better news about "Ginger" the next time I write, and I hope that I don't have any problems with MY health! We already had a sick mama, and now we have a sick puppy; we don't need ANYBODY else sick in my family! Until then, this is Johnny signing off!
~Love, your pal, Johnny. :( (Sad because of my helping dog, "Ginger", being in the animal hospital.)
