Louisiana Sandusky continues her letter to Jenna Aurora Whitson, her friend in Alaska.
Tuesday, August 24, 2004~
Dear Jenna:
Sorry for having to end my letter just a while ago, but my daughter, Jodie, who has cerebral palsy, was hungry (I could hear her tummy talking from across the room, plus she was giving me a look on her face, as if to say: "FEED ME! NOW!" LOL), so I had to tend to her. She is unable to eat orally (due to her inability to chew or swallow), so she is tube fed by a tube that has been surgically placed into her belly, and we feed her through the tube. She has been a lot healthier since having this done, believe it or not, and she is really doing quite well for herself! We are very proud at all that she has accomplished in the past year, and she is starting to make her wants and needs known, and she is really coming along great!
Now Bill is feeding our other child with cerebral palsy, Todd, but Todd is able to eat soft foods with little problem; but he just takes so darn long in eating! It takes well over an hour and a half for him to eat his entire lunch (or breakfast or supper, whatever the case may be)! Still, he can manage pretty good with our help, and he is such a special young man! It is hard to believe that he and Jodie are teenagers now; it seems like only yesterday when they were just little bitty squirts! LOL
And I am here, writing this letter to you, now that Jodie has had her food. She is now lying down, on the seat of our van, looking at me, grinning a huge, satisfied, drooly smile, and she looks very happy, to say the least! She is so cute when she smiles; I wish you could meet her! You would love her! In fact, you would probably love ALL my kids besides Johnny and Ronee'!
If you are wondering who is doing the driving, it is our daughter, Steffi. She is a very competent and capable driver, even though she is only 17 1/2 now. She is very good, and she knows what she is doing. But Bill is talking to some of the kids, and I am writing on Ronee' 's computer (laptop,that is!), writing this letter to you. Now you know what we are doing! LOL
I hope the weather up there has started to cool off. I know it has been warmer than what y'all are used to up there in Alaska, and I know that there have been fires burning; hopefully the fires or smoke aren't near y'all! I hope this finds y'all safe and free from harm and danger! I hear of those fires or smoke in Alaska, and I can't help but be a little worried! I hope y'all have a nice, cold, SNOWY winter; y'all NEED some SERIOUS precipitation up there to handle the forest fires that are burning up that way! The weather here has been a mixture of sunny days and rainy days, but the temps. haven't been TOO bad! In fact, we have been cooler than average this summer; and we are loving it here in the southland! It can get pretty darn hot in the southland during the summer; some of the summers we have had here have been absolute SCORCHERS!
I got the picture of the aurora borealis from the Internet. I did a google search for "auroras" and clicked "images", and the picture I found was one of those displayed. I did NOT take the picture; the auroras we have had here in Tennessee are NOTHING compared to your brilliant and awesome displays! Compared to Alaska, the auroras that we have seen here (with a few exceptions; there were some pretty bright displays here last year) SUCK! LOL Yes, we would love some pictures of the auroral displays; thank you for asking! I will pay for copies! Just let me know how much the copies are, and I will send you the money, PDQ!
Well, Jenna, I have to tend to Jodie again: she is starting to stink pretty strongly now; I can smell her, and it is NOT pretty! LOL I think she just went to the bathroom, and she is now looking pretty proud of herself! So I have to change her before we have to abandon ship and air out our van! LOL Until I next hear from you, Jenna, take care, and say hello to Michael! Give him our love and give him some XXX's and 000's from us, okay? Thanks! God bless you both, and keep in touch!
