Because a lot of us choose a book by both its cover and its title, we have to hit the nail on the head the first time. For me, personally, titles are hard. For instance, the book I'm working on now, a Victorian Romance, was very hard to name. I called it, in the beginning, "As The Fates Allow" Like it? Well, I didn't. I searched my brain for something more catchy, more enticing, more appropro. And then I realized I was using an old Victorian song in the story. The Irish songbird Enya recorded it calling it "Marble Halls". In doing research for the book, I discovered a great many things about the Victorian era. One of the most amazing things was a popular song during that very same era called "I Dreamt That I Dwelt In Marble Halls"! And I found that I can copy the lyrics because it is in public domain and is very old. Thus I came up with my title..."Marble Halls". The name is perfect because it does deal with homes that indeed have marble halls in them.
As for "Accidental Outlaw" that came easier than breathing. I was driving to work, heard the mention of a movie called "The Accidental Tourist" and voila! the idea struck me like a bullet from a six-shooter. That was easy, the other books haven't been. Nor has some short stories and poems. Bottom line is, make the title right or you will most likely have writer's regret. Oh I love to write!!!!
