The Sandusky family is gearing up for a trip to the annual state fair, which starts this weekend.
I can't believe it, but it is already nearly that time of year again: that year when midway rides spring up like daisies on a fair midway, when mouth-watering smells of food permeate our noses, and the sounds of barkers hawking their wares or games assault our already overloaded ears. It is also nearly time for big-name entertainment for nearly two weeks worth of concerts, local acts hoping to make a splash on the music scene, and displays ranging from crafts and art work, food stuffs guaranteed to get your mouth a watering, and automobiles. There will also be plenty of animals, big and small, farm and domesticated, as well as exotic fare, and there will be people entering contests galore, hoping to be among the state's best in everything from cooking, eating pies or other taste treats, and being the strongest man around.
Our state fair will be starting this Friday, and some of the biggest names are scheduled to appear: Loretta Lynn, Alan Jackson, Reba, Toby Keith, Run DMC, Hillary Duff, Kid Rock, Hank Willisms, Jr., CeCe Winans, Tanya Tucker, Jewel, The Coasters, Ronnie Milsap, Vince Vance and the Valiants, Bobby Vinton, Wynonna (Judd), and Aretha Franklin. There will also be fireworks nearly every night, special on-going events not correlated with the big-name concerts, continuous live entertainment on up to nine stages, and special fair-related displays with a particular theme.
Of course, we will be at the fair most of that time; on Friday I am in the State Fair parade, which officially kicks off the fair, and my sister, Ronee', is scheduled to sing several times during the fair run (including opening up for Loretta Lynn, which she always enjoys!); and we will also be hitting the midway and testing our mettle on some of the most hair-raising rides imaginable. I love some of those rides; but some of them go way beyond the limit of insanity, and besides, some of those that have flashing lights set my epilepsy off and I may have seizures; so I avoid those like the plague. Still, there ARE rides that don't bother me, so I will ride those. I will also be playing some of the games and hopefully I will come from the fair with a midway-sized array of prizes in my arms! LOL
We usually have our fair in August, but this year it is held later because of the cooler weather; it's something new the fair board is trying, in the hopes of drawing more people to the fair. Last year, the fair was hot a lot of the time, and other than a few days, attendance was mostly down. So maybe there will be more people coming to our fair this year. I hope so; I hate it when the fair doesn't draw a lot of people! But maybe this year, with the huge-name entertainment, there will be many more people coming to the fair; plus they lowered the price of admission and the price of the midway rides.

LOL All I can say is this: I can't wait for the fair to start; besides, we get out of going to school that day! LOL I can't think of a better way to start off a weekend than by going to the Tennessee State Fair! Oh, this is going to be a BLAST! :D

too bad i'm getting too old to handle rides like the skydiver anymore...o, i remember those cruel, cruel days when you'd sucker me onto rides...and then would chicken out, leaving *ME* stranded...your comment: 'i'll ride if you survive--i just wanna watch.'
