I am having a blast here at the Tennessee State Fair! I am at the fair with my family, and we have been having an absolute ball!
This is Steffi. I usually work on Sundays, but I got the weekend off (for ONCE!), and we are spending it at the fair. We have been looking at the exhibit halls, the animals, listening to all kinds of music, and of course, we kids have been riding the midway rides and trying out for prizes. We have been at the fair for the past two days, and tonight, at seven thirty, we are seeing Kid Rock at the main grandstand. Now, most of my family won't, but I will; and so will some of my friends, whom I am meeting at the grandstand before the show. I will be with my friends until after the show, and then I will meet up with my family again.
I have been riding some of the most extreme rides: the Orbiter, the Booster (that is one KILLER ride!), the Chaos, and the Slingshot, which is a bungee type ride. I have also been riding the old stand bys like the Scrambler, the Tilt A Whirl (or, as Ronee', my little sister, calls it, the "Tilt A Hurl"! LOL), and the Rock-O-Planes, as well as the SkyDiver, the Zipper, and the Himalaya. I think the midway is the best part of the fair, and whenever I go to the fair (or even to a festival that features a midway, like the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival in Louisiana), I spend a lot of time on the midway, just riding one ride after another until I am so dizzy!
The weather for the past few days has been delightful, but today is clouding up; they are calling for rain by tomorrow; and we may have some heavy rain, due to the after effects of Tropical Storm Matthew, which is currently in Louisiana, in the Cajun Country. We just may spend the day looking at exhibits tomorrow; but I will have to leave the fair tonight, after the Kid Rock concert, because I have to work tomorrow at 11. I will come to the fair after I get off work. But my family will be there all day.
I also love the games of chance: I am pretty good at figuring out the secret to the games, and I usually win a prize or two during the fair. I also love to try out for posters, or I try to buy some tee shirts or some cool earrings. I also love to look for cheap jewelry, and I love to shop for new music. I usually spend at least $100 at the fair on any given fair run, and mama and daddy are always getting mad at me because they think I should be saving my money. Well, I DO; I put at least HALF of it in the bank, and I pay my bills first! What's a little extra spending money anyway??
But probably the favorite part of the fair (for ME, anyway) is the midway, no question. I always love getting the bejesus scared out of me on any ride, and I love the thrill of watching the scenery flash before my eyes in an insane blur; and when I get off the ride, I am so dizzy I am weaving back and forth like a drunkard, and I have a stupid grin on my face; and my hair looks like a wild woman's! I also love the sensation of flipping head over heels and the rush of the wind before my face as the ride spins crazily out of control!
