Johnny writes again in his journal. He hasn't written in it in over a week, thanks to being at the Tennessee State Fair.

Monday, the 18th of October, 2004~
Dear Journal:
Hi! This is Johnny again. I am sorry I haven't been around, but I have been very busy, and I haven't been home until only Saturday. We went to the Tennessee State Fair here in Nashville, and we have been there most of the time. If we weren't looking around at all the exhibits or gorging ourselves with fair food, some of the kids have been riding the rides. Or we had been listening to music. At the fair, we saw Tanya Tucker, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, and Loretta Lynn in concert, and on Wednesday, Ronee', my brat sister, got to sing with Loretta Lynn, and of course, the paper wrote a glowing review of the concert and mentioned Ronee'. I was a little mad and jealous. They even put a picture of her on the inside part of the article, and she was singing and playing her stupid Cajun accordion. It was a good picture, but I am sure that my cousins, aunts, and uncles will be calling to say that they want copies. And meanwhile, here's poor, ignored Johnny, who hardly gets IN the paper unless it is around the time of the Muscular Dystrophy telethon or something.
I didn't ride any of the rides: I can't handle them, and the bright flashing lights on some of them aggravate my seizures, so I stay off them. I can't ride the rides excepting for a few of them because my stomach just can't take it, and I get sick so easily. I can watch a ride and get sick. That's how bad it is. Like this one ride they had out there called the TopSpin...just the name of it is enough to make me want to hurl! It's one of these rides that flips the riders upside down, and as it does, the whole thing moves in a circle; and every so often, the ride flips. I can't even mention it without wanting to lose my belly. UCH! I am starting to feel a bit nauseated now as I write this about the TopSpin, so I had better shut up before I go *BARRRRRRFFFF*...
I had fun at the fair, but when we got home on Saturday, there was a surprise from Sikik Eegeesiak, our friend in Barrow, Alaska, whom we met last spring when we went to Alaska. She had sent us a shirt each (plus a flute for me and a stuffed white baby harp seal for Ronee'), and she also wrote us a very nice letter. We have since wrote her back, and we are waiting to hear from her. It was so good to hear from her; it's been a while, and I was just starting to wonder about her!
And yesterday, our day ended on an interesting note: my sister, the Monster, had an asthma attack on our way home from church, and it didn't seem to be getting any better, so we had to take her to the Emergency Room. She had to get some oxygen and a shot, and after a while, she was okay; but they had to stick her, and she screamed like she was being killed. We could hear her, and it was upsetting to me. I hate to hear her being in pain or getting poked; I was never so glad when we got out of there and went home! But her wrist was all bruised, and after the medicine took effect, her breathing improved, and she got to go back home. She didn't have to be admitted to the hospital, thank goodness. She stayed home from school today, but she will be back there tomorrow. Maman wanted to keep an eye on her, since she started a new asthma medication; maman wanted to make sure that she was going to be okay (which she is; but she is probably now sleeping her life away in bed, lucky thing, while I am stuck in school!). Ronee' was also mad because yesterday, while all this was going on, her favorite show was on, and Hunter Hayes, this really terrific young Cajun kid who sings and plays accordion, was on, and she didn't get to see it. She was really fussing yesterday!
Anyway, back to the fair: while at the fair, I got to meet Loretta Lynn, Toby Keith, Tanya Tucker, Reba, Alan Jackson, and Tiffany Evans (Tiffany is 11, and she was on "Star Search"; she won the Junior Singer category and the title of Best overall junior singer; and now she has a brand new album due out any time; she is really super!), and I had my picture made with all of them. I was so happy to see Reba, Alan Jackson, and Loretta Lynn again, and it was also exciting to meet Toby, Tanya, and Tiffany! I also got their autographs, and they were more than happy to sign an autograph for me. They were all super nice, and they didn't make me feel like an idiot! I was glad of that!
I also got to sit in a HUMMER at the car show, and man, I thought I was really something! I looked cool in that HUMMER, and if I were older, I wanted to drive it right out of the fairgrounds and to my house! I bet that HUMMER would look cool sitting in my driveway! And I could just imagine the comments I would have gotten had I been old enough to drive that HUMMER to school! :) My friend, Roberto, has a HUMMER, and his is really cool! I love riding in it, and he knows I enjoy it, so he takes me for rides in his HUMMER sometimes! (Roberto's HUMMER is orange, by the way, really pretty!)
Well, I had better go. I have to go potty, and I need help; I had better let my teacher know before there is an ugly accident in my wheelchair, let alone, in my pants...I will write more again soon. Until then, this is Johnny, aged 11 1/2, signing off! Bye!
~Love, your pal, Johnny. :)

| I really am jealous because you got to meet some of my favorite singers. I have a character named Loretta in my new book The Power and The Glory. I enjoy everything that you write. |
