A letter which is somewhere now!
A good friend in Ghana lost her Father recently. I knew him well in the 1970s when I worked in Tema so I thought I should write to her. The letter had 3 pages so I needed the correct postage to send to Ghana (from Scotland). I went to a supermarket which has a postal counter. I took the letter with me and placed it in the shopping trolley.
Unfortunately a gust of wind scooped it up as I entered and as I looked back, the automatic doors behind me closed. I had to go to the exit and return outside to where the letter would now be found on the ground.
An elderly couple were leaving the store so I could not overtake them or rush round them but when I got through I saw the letter in the hand of a young woman who suffered from Downs Syndrome.
I raised my hand and told her "It''s mine. It''s my letter!" She thought it was a game. Before I could reach her, she ran to the post box and posted it!
So to Rosemary in Ghana please accept my apologies if you had to pay for the stamp. I did not know to laugh or cry. I guess I did both!
