A veteran nurse who is the charge nurse at a large metropolitan hospital in the South has seen many miracles in both her professional and personal life. She shares some of them with us now.
I have reason to believe that, besides adopting children with heartbreaking disabilities, being a nurse is my other Calling in life. I was meant to be a nurse; and I have always wanted to be one ever since I was a little nine-year-old girl lying paralyzed in a hospital bed after falling out of a tree.
I eventually recovered from my fall, and therapy brought me back to my feet; once I was able to walk again without the aid of braces on my legs or forearm crutches, I decided that since nurses played such an integral part of my life as a child, I wanted nothing more than to help people who were sick or in need. So I laid out plans to be a nurse, and when I started attending nursing school, it was a dream come true for me.
During my schooling, I studied long and hard, and I relished the time I spent at the hospital, learning my craft. I also remember the pride in my parent's eyes when I walked across the stage to get my nursing diploma, my hat, and pin. I also remember the first time I actually helped in saving a human life, and it really struck home. I was so blessed to do a career that I had held dear since I was a small child in the hospital, and I figured that the angels of life were smiling down upon me.
I have seen many things during my nursing career, both good and bad, and I have seen many people die; but I also have seen many of them live when all hope seemed lost. It especially mattered when the patients involved in my care happened to be my very own children. I had seen my son, Johnny, and my daughter, Ronee', overcome many crises involving their heart or breathing, and I had seen them recover from life-threatening illness or injury. I also had seen my daughter, Jodie, recover from frightening respiratory illnesses that threatened to strangle her, and I had seen my teenaged son, Anh Kim (now nearly a young adult), recover from deadly cancer, not once, but twice (and he had since gotten a Miracle Healing from God; he has been cancer free for nearly six months now!). I also have seen people survive deadly illnesses and come back, with a will to survive and get back on their feet when they were well enough to leave the hospital. I have seen plenty of joy and Miracles, and it is these Miracles that make my job all the more worthwhile. I am glad to be doing this for a living, and I can't think of a better way than to impact people's lives in such a powerful or profound way.
If people don't believe in Miracles, then all they have to do is look at the faces of my children because they ARE living Miracles. They have overcome much in the way of tragedy or heartbreak in their young lives, and through the Miracle of adoption, they now have a chance to succeed in life, even though the majority of them face serious physical (or even mental) disabilities. They also have to look at the faces of people like Toby Tyler, Hannah Grace Tighlman, Honee' Jackson, M'Buti Ayala Sormiento, Mackenzie Grace Hollister, Heather Lyndsay McCabe, Josiah Patrick Isaiah Noche', Hezekial Michael Rosenberg, and Jacinthe MicKayla Lewis, people who all faced incredible odds during their stay in the hospital, but somehow, recovered over impossibility. Don't tell me there isn't such a thing as Miracles because I am here to tell you there ARE! I see Miracles each and every day, and I thank God that He is still in the Miracle Making Business! If it were not for Him or His Grace and Mercy, I would not enjoy what I do for a living, and I would not be able to share these people's stories with you. It is only by God that my patients have survived, and no matter how bad things may have looked at the time, he saw all these people through, and now they still live and enjoy life! Sure, some of these people face disability and an uncertain future, but just the mere fact that they are even ALIVE makes me want to continue my job as a nurse, and as long as there are people whose lives need saving, I am THERE! I will do all that I possibly can (along with the Lord's help) to ensure that they DO overcome the odds and eventually recover!
P.S.: The little boy in the picture is one of a child that had open heart surgery; he had a lot of serious health issues involving his heart, and he wasn't expected to survive; but I am here to tell you that he is now a young man of 13, and he is doing splendidly. All the more reason to believe in Miracles and know that they still do happen in real life, even now! :)

I stay in constant prayer for those that suffer from disabilities and other problems. Thank you for continuing a series that is written extremely well.
I was blessed with such a miracle when my wife was cured of breast cancer that had spread and the doctors only gave her 2 months to live. Yes miracles do happen if we earnestly pray to God for them.
