Ronee' writes a letter to Louisiana's new friend in California, a little girl with pain insensitivity disorder.
Sunday, the 14th of November, 2004~

Dear Rebekkah Rachel~

Hi! Thanks for writing my maman; she was glad to hear from you, and she said that I could write to you if your mama says it is okay. I am glad that your mama said that it was okay to write to my maman! My maman is very sweet, and I am so lucky to have her!

To tell you about myself, my name is Ronee' Le-Anne Marie Reaux (pronounced like "ROW"; the "X" in my last name is silent!), and I will be 12 years old on December 25 (Christmas Day!). I was supposed to be born in March, me and my twin sister (her name is Robyn Ranae; she lives with another family, but that's a long story!), but we couldn't wait to be born (me especially!), so we were born in December, on Christmas Day! I have long, black hair that is wavy and thick, and I have dark skin and black eyes. I am part Native American Indian, and I also have African-American, Spanish, and Irish in my blood; but I am mostly Cajun French. I was born in Louisiana, in a tiny town called Meaux, which is near Abbeville (in the southern part of the state, below Lafayette), but I was adopted when I was three months old; and the family I live with is the only family I have ever known.

I love to do many things, some of which include singing (I want to be a country/Cajun singer when I grow up, and I am happy to say that I am singing now!), reading, writing (I have written a book about my life; it's called "People Say No, But God Says Yes!: My Story of Hope and Healing"; I just wrote it earlier this year; it just came out!), watching tv (I love to watch "America's Most Talented Kids", "Sue Thomas, Private Eye", "SpongeBob SquarePants", "Bugs Bunny", "PopEye", "The Wild Thornberrys", "Rugrats", "Ahhh! Real Monsters", "Tom and Jerry", "Scooby Doo", "Star Search", and watch the Christian channels), playing my instruments (I can play fiddle, Cajun French accordion, guitar, banjo, and mandolin; I also play piano and organ), going to concerts (I go to rock, country, gospel, or Cajun; I have seen many of my favorite singers!), travel (I've been all over America and to Canada, and in April, I got to go on a two-week cruise to Alaska; it was a BLAST!), and play with my friends and also my brothers and sisters. What do you like to do, Rebekkah?

I must also let you know this right off the bat: I am physically disabled; unfortunately, I have a disability that people can see. I have juvennile rheumatoid arthritis, which affects the joints in my body; and last year, I had my first surgery (and may have my second one sometime next year). I can walk, but I walk with forearm crutches and leg braces, and sometimes, I use my wheelchair if I am having a lot of problems with my walking, or if I am having a bad pain day). Now, I don't mind it MOST of the time, but when I am having a flare (an active phase of my disease), I wish I didn't have to have all this darn pain! Sometimes the pain gets so bad I have to go into the hospital and get meds to kill the pain because the stuff I normally take for my JRA doesn't touch the pain). I also have asthma, which causes me to have trouble breathing sometimes (I had it a lot worse when I was small, but as I get older, I am getting better), and I know to stay away from things that give me the most problems (like, for example, PEANUTS; if I have but a few, they can kill me or make me very sick; that's how bad of an allergy I have to them! I often need an ambulance so I can get to the hospital quick if I am to have a chance to survive), but now, I don't have as much problems with my breathing, thank the Lord! :)

Sometimes if I am hurting or having a lot of problems with my allergies, I sometimes feel sorry for myself, but more often than not, I refuse to let my physical problems get the best of me. For one thing, I am too busy with my life, and my life is very good, especially since I became a Christian! I was saved at the age of seven, and I have enjoyed my relationship with my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ; and He has blessed me tremendously! I am fortunate to be where I am, and it is exciting to think that when I die or if He comes back BEFORE I die, I am guaranteed to go to Heaven, to live in His Kingdom for all eternity; and here's the best part of all: I will be GUARANTEED a Healing of my problems, and when I get to Heaven, I will NO LONGER need crutches, leg braces, or a wheelchair (I will be able to RUN and WALK UNAIDED, something I never could do on this Earth, and I will NO LONGER have asthma or allergies, and I will be able to breathe just like anyone else! I am reallly looking forward to THAT day; that is going to be soooo GREAT!! :D

I have gone on about myself for far too long; now it is YOUR turn to tell me about YOU. What do you like to do, Rebekkah? Do you have any siblings, or are you an only child? Where in California do you live? Do you have both parents, or do you live with one or the other? What grade are you in, and how are you doing in school? I hope you are doing well in school! Where do you go to church (or synagogue; I think maman just told me you're Jewish!). Do you celebrate Hannukah, Passover, or Rosh Hoshanna? Do you celebrate Easter or Christmas? We celebrate Christmas and Easter, but we also celebrate our nation's birthday on July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Labor Day, as well as Veteran's Day. Every Vet's Day we take stuff to the veterans at the veteran's hospital, and we always have a good time. We did that last week, and the veterans were really glad to see us and they thanked us for remembering them.

Well, Rebekkah, I have gone on long enough, so it's time I shut up and get off the computer. Besides, I gotta' leave for church in a half hour; we go to Christ Community Aseembly of God Church. Where do you go? (Or did I just ask that; I think I did! LOL) Until I next hear from you, take care, and thanks for writing to maman! I hope to hear from you soon! God bless you too and know He loves and cares for you ALWAYS!

(((HUGS))) and love, a new friend in Tennessee, Ronee' Le-Anne Reaux, aged 11 1/2 (will be twelve on Christmas Day, December 25, this year!). :D
