A little girl is sad because her baby brother is in the hospital, fighting for his very life.
I don't know why things happen the way they do, but one minute I was happy, and the next, it seemed that my world was falling apart, with no end in sight.

It all started when my little baby brother, Remington Daniel, started spiking unexplainable fevers and started coughing up blood. Now he is in a hospital, fighting for his little life, and we are so scared! The doctor said it was cancer; and they don't know whether Remy is going to live past Christmas. One minute, he was his usually happy, adorable self; and the next, he was lying in a crib at a hospital, wires and I.V.'s plugged into his little body. It seems that everyone and everybody is focusing on my little brother and ignoring me, and I don't like it AT all. Mama and daddy seem to spend all the time at the hospital with Remy, and I am usually left alone, or with my big sister, Ethelda, and whenever I do see Mama and Daddy, it seems that all they do is cry.

I went to the hospital once to see Remy, but I wasn't allowed to see him because I am too young (I am ten), and the only way I could see him was peek into the room; and what I saw caused me to burst into tears. Little Remy looked so still and so pale lying there in that big hospital crib, and it looked like he was dying. All of a sudden, I wished I could have traded places, wishing that it was ME lying there instead of Remy. Remy was only a baby of one year; he didn't deserve to be so sick, and it wasn't fair that he had to suffer! When it came to be too much, I ran from where I stood, and I was saying how much I hated Remy, and I wished that he could die, so he wouldn't have to suffer any more.

Of course, Mama and Daddy (and also Ethelda) were right there when I said that, and Mama and Daddy got very angry with me while Ethelda just cried. Mama slapped me right across the face, and Daddy yelled at me, calling me selfish and self-centered; and how I could say such a mean thing about Remy; but the truth of the matter was, I just didn't care anymore. Now with Christmas coming up, it just made the situation more desperate, and I didn't want to spend Christmas stuck in some stupid hospital, worrying halfway to death about my baby brother, who was possibly dying.

(To be continued~)

When I had cancer it was always the children that got to me. They were the bravest little souls and underwent a lot of painful tests. I hope this one turns out well too. Good job here Karen.
