Louisiana Sandusky, in her grief, writes an email to her young friend in California after the little girl has emailed her. She is in Memphis, Tennessee, at this writing; she just got back from the funeral services for her little niece, Cajun Marie, who died on Saturday, at the age of six and one half.

Dear Rebekkah Rachel~
Thank you so much for your letter of encouragement and sympathy. We just got back from the funeral services for my little niece, Cajun Marie Sandusky, and I can hardly see, from all the crying I have done these past several days. It has been rough on both Bill and myself, and it has been especially traumatic for Marvin and Toni, Cajun's parents. Cajun had all sorts of physical challenges that severely curtailed her way of life, and she was so very sick; but she is now with Jesus, and her suffering has finally come to an end. We can live with that, but it is still a rude shock to our systems, and it will be a while before the grief is overwith and done.
It doesn't seem fair that a child like Cajun Marie has to have so many problems and then has to die; but as much as we want to understand, we can't, as it is all up to God, and it is only HE who knows why things like this must happen in our lives. Cajun was a special child, and she had many physical problems, but she was very well loved by all who knew her, and she touched the lives of many people. I was honored to have known her for four and a half years, and I was honored to be her aunt. She was a beautiful little girl with an angel's smile, and a sweet personality, and although she couldn't see, hear, walk, or talk, she still knew in her own special way that she was loved, and she knew how to give love back! Now she is finally at peace, and all the problems she had here on Earth are gone; and she is now with Jesus, and now has a new body. She is walking, talking, seeing, and hearing for the very first time in her young life, and I am sure she is having an absolute ball up there in Heaven! I am just glad that all her pain and suffering is finally at an end, and I am glad that her family taught her about God and all His Mercies!
But it doesn't make it easier for the rest of us. We still have to come to terms with the death of a child, which is probably the worst thing that anyone can ever experience (I have done exactly that, on three different occasions; I lost my three biological children, one on what would have been his fourth birthday--he died of meningitis--, and two while they were still very young babies--the boy died of crib death--SIDS--at the age of six days, and his sister--my only daughter--died of meningitis at the age of two weeks and two days), and no matter how the years go by, I still miss my babies very much, and I still cry on the anniversary dates of their deaths or on their birthdays. They are with Jesus, too, and I am sure that they will get to meet Cajun Marie and become really close with her!
We will be home probably sometime next week. Until then, we want to be with Marvin and his family and help them. They need us right now, and Bill needs all the support he can possibly get. He is absolutely devastated at the loss of his little niece, and he is an emotional wreck right now. Seems any little thing can get the tears flowing again, and I feel so bad for him! I wish there was something I could do to take some of the pain away, but I am hurting just as much as he is, if not more! I loved little Cajun Marie too, and she was such a precious little girl! I don't know what we are going to do without her; she was such a special part of our family, and she will be missed by many for many years to come!
Thank you for your love and concern, and also your prayers. They will mean so much to us, and I am grateful to have friends such as you and your parents! Thank you for caring, and thank you for your sympathy wishes; I wish I knew what to say now, during this sad and difficult time, but I WILL say this: just knowing you care is all we need right now, and we thank you for your love and friendship!
