A young lady pleads to people about not forgetting the REAL meaning behind Christmas.
Every time I turn on the TV or listen to the radio, I can't help but cry. They have seemed to forgotten what Christmas is truly about, and whenever I read or see of the greed that has taken place, my heart is broken in two.
Christmas isn't just about presents or spending time with family or friends: it is a whole lot more, and yet people seem to forget the MAIN reason behind the holiday: The Birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who was born in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago.
God was tired of man sinning all the time (thanks to the misdeeds of the first Man and Woman that God created, Adam and Eve; as a result of their transgression, man now lives in a sin-filled world, and it's been passed on down through the generations), so He made His Son, Jesus, who would be born a King, grow into a man, and would, ultimately, die as a result of the sins of Mankind. They aren't sure exactly when Jesus was born (I've read that He was probably born sometime in the fall instead of in December, which is when we celebrate His Birthday), but most people celebrate it on December 25, which came to be known as CHRISTmas. (Notice I capitalized the first part of Christmas because that is exactly what the TRUE meaning of Christmas is all about: Jesus Christ!)
As a Christian, I am dismayed to see all the junk that has taken over the radio or tv shows, even at Christmas. Instead of hearing those beautiful religious carols like "O Holy Night", "Silent Night", "Joy! To The World", "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear", or "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", you hear stupid stuff like "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer", "Jingle Bells" (done by dogs or cats yet!!), or mangled up versions of the Christmas carols that hurt my ears! You hardly see any "nativity scenes" around outside of church (some people have gotten mad at those who choose to display them), and people have really gotten nasty and mean-spirited. Last year, as an example, some goon stole toys from a Salvation Army, and another goon broke into a family's house while they were away at church for Christmas services and stole all their presents and valuables. I also heard of a man who ran a little boy over with his car, and the little boy was killed instantly. It happened right on Christmas Day, too.
When we went Christmas shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, I saw people fighting over DVD's or IPODS that were on sale, and I saw a lady get robbed of her purse right in front of my eyes; and all I could do was stand there in disbelief. (Luckily, someone else saw it, and tackled the would-be robber, and the shaken up woman got her purse back, with nothing missing.) People were acting like nuts, and I didn't see anything "Christ centered" at the mall; and it really bothered me. It was as though the Grinch Who Stole Christmas was living on in these people, and I felt like giving them a sermon; but of course, I chickened out and kept my mouth shut because nobody wanted to hear what a little kid with a disability had to say. But after I got home, all I could do was break down and cry.
Now Christmas is staring down at us (it is two weeks from today, and I will be turning twelve two weeks from now; yes, my birthday happens to fall right ON Christmas Day!), but I don't feel very Christmas-y because of the above reasons. I also just lost a beloved little cousin of mine just one week ago today, and I am very sad deep down inside. Just thinking of Cajun Marie Sandusky has my eyes watering up and a huge lump forming in my throat. My heart is still broken over her death, and I miss her so much it isn't a BIT funny!! The only comfort I will get is when I go to the Cantata tonight and "do my thing" for those who come to the Cantata. I can forget of all this nastiness that is going on in the world today, of Cajun Marie's death, and all the other garbage that threatens to poison me and all those who want to celebrate the TRUE meaning of the Season: the Birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ!!
If we don't return to thinking about Jesus or remembering Him at Christmas, then we are doomed. The world has become an ugly, dangerous place, especially to Christians, and I am sorry, but I refuse to conform to the ways of the world, and I choose to remember the Saviour, especially at Christmas! Jesus is THE Reason for the Season!!

an exceptionally timely, beautiful write that reminds the reader of the real reason behind the season: JESUS! thank you for sharing your faith so dynamically and powerfully :)--may others see the real reason too :)
Karen if only everyone could read this with an open mind and heart, they might see what they have allowed to happen to the real Christmas, and how bad things have become. All religious holidays are celebrated and no one disturbs them , except for the one that bears the name Jesus Chist, because as the Bible says, he is a stumbling block to many who refuse him and therin lies the problem! Superb writing Karen, Blessings to you on Christmas and through the New Year!

Hi Karen,
She's a brave young lady. I enjoyed this story and can see why she cried and felt sad. Good story.
Christmas - only days away; plastic snowmen and glowing reindeer adorn the lawns of neighborhoods all across America. All is calm, all is bright, and yet there is something tragically wrong about this Christmas night.
