Louisiana is delighted to hear from her friend in Finland, Sari, so she emails her after she heard from her yesterday. She is at home, taking care of one of her children, who is home from school, as she is sick with a bad chest cold.

Dear Sari~
Hai! Miita kuuluu? Kiitos hyvaas!
I was so happy to hear from you at long last; I was just starting to wonder about you...thank you for writing!
I am well; but I am home from work today because I am taking care of one of my children, Ronee'. Seems that Ronee' has taken sick; she has a horrible chest cold, and I just got back from taking her to the pediatrician's office, where he gave her some medicine (and a shot) and told her to stay in bed, so she can get a lot of rest. Ronee' is feeling pretty lousy, and she is now in bed, where she is just starting to nod off. That will be good for her. I will make her some warm chicken and rice soup when she awakens; that ought to soothe her raw, scratchy throat, achy chest, and blocked nasal passages! She was throwing up yesterday, but she seems to be over that, thank goodness; she absolutely HATES to throw up!
I work tomorrow; I was supposed to work today, but with Ronee' being sick, and not being able to find a sitter (Bill had to work today; he works until six tonight, and Steffi also had to work; she has to be at work at 11 today; she is at work now), I had no choice but to stay home with Ronee'. The other kids are at school, and I don't expect them home until 3:30 or so today, so at least I will have SOME peace and quiet until Ronee' awakens!
I am sitting here in Ronee' 's room, using her computer, as I type this. Ronee' is lying in bed, and I can hear her wheezing as she breathes (but then, that is normal for her!). She is lying on her side, her head resting on her arm, and her little nose is all red and inflamed; and she looks like she is feeling pretty miserable. (I am just glad she isn't having any serious trouble with her breathing; at least she has on her oxygen!) I feel sorry for her; it isn't fun being sick, and she is miserable because she is missing school. I wish more of my kids were like her; some of my kids absolutely LOATHE school, and they will use every trick in the book just so they can stay home!
I just hope that my other kids don't get Ronee' 's bug; I don't need a houseful of sick kids, especially since it IS so close to Christmas! Hopefully this will be out of Ronee' 's system by the time Christmas comes around! Last year the kids weren't sick on Christmas, but they DID manage to have the flu (TWICE!) last year! Seems that all of them got sick at about the same time, and let's just say that I, Mama, didn't get much rest AT all!
I shall be looking forward to your package; you didn't have to send us anything! You are sweet to think of us at Christmas time! I shall also be looking forward to hearing from your brothers; maybe we will have a regular conversation going as I have done with you??...I always enjoy hearing from you, and I am glad that life is treating you well at the present time! That is great to know that you and Nikolas are doing well, and it is nice to know that you two are together for the holidays! He is a sweet man, and I am glad that the two of you are happy!
I also am glad to know that your mother is well, and that the wolf problem has been solved, and that your reindeer herd is doing well! Our animals are doing well, but lately, one of my friends has been trying to talk me into buying a goat. I don't know about that because I am not all that familiar with raising goats, and I have heard that they have voracious appetites, and I don't know what I would do if I were to find some things missing, as the goat got hungry during the night...I would probably want to kill me a goat! LOL I told him I already have a bunch of "goats"--ah, er, KIDS! LOL--, why would I need a REAL goat, for goodness' sakes??
I loved the picture of the Northern Lights you put on your letter; we haven't seen any lately, and the only time WE see them here is if the geometric storm is unusually strong; and Northern Lights here are a rare event. We did see meteors last night, thanks to the Geminids meteor shower, which has been going on for the past few nights. We saw some really spectacular bolides (bright meteors), and they were all colors: white, blue, yellow, pink, even red! We saw one to three meteors per MINUTE, and the kids really enjoyed them (as did we, the parents)! Did you see any meteors? If not, you ought to check out the Geminids if it isn't cloudy there!
The weather here is cold, and we may have snow by next week, according to the weather forecasters. Anything to put us in a holiday mood; man, I LOVE this time of year!! Some parts of the U.S. are gettting inundated with snow (the upper Midwest, the Lake regions of eastern Michigan, northeastern Ohio, northwestern Pennsylvania, New York, like around Buffalo and Syracuse, that area, etc.), and some spots have had close to TWO FEET of snow...and the white stuff continues to come down! I am glad that we don't live there; I don't know what I would do with five million feet of snow in my backyard! LOL I am a CAJUN; we aren't built to handle THAT kind of extreme weather! LOL
Thank you for your prayers and concern about my niece, Cajun, and her recent passing. No, none of my children died; but still, a family member did die, just the same. It was my niece, my husband's brother's daughter, She was just six and a half, and she had a lot of serious medical problems; but she is now in Heaven, with Jesus, and for her, her suffering is finally over. But it doesn't make it any easier for us here on Earth; she was such a special little child, and she will be missed for a very long time to come by all who knew (and loved) her! We will make it through this sad time, but it WILL take time; we just have to take one day at a time and know that she is finally at peace!
Well, I have other emails to answer, so I will let you go. Again, thanks for your sweet letter, and I'll let you know when your packages come! Thank you again for thinking of us! If we don't hear from you beforehand, you have a very Merry Christmas, and the happiest (and healthiest) of New Years! God bless you and Nikolas, and see you in the spring (in GREECE!)! Can't wait!

i love this write--and poor ronee's got a bug, eh? hope she feels better...would you having a cold yourself have any inspiration for making your character sick? :)

I can sympathize with the sick child as I have had this bug now going into my second week. When you have asthma it gets a little complicated but I have enjoyed these writes.
