Dear Precious Little Ones~
Ho! Ho! Ho! This is your Northern Pal, Santa Claus, writing directly from the North Pole! I hope this finds you all well and happy; but I know for certain that there are some little ones who are feeling anything BUT merry this holiday season. These are the little ones that I want to address.
Little Angels, I wish I could take away the pain and suffering that you must endure each and every day, be it from being in the hospital over Christmas because you are sick or injured, from the physical and emotional abuse that you face every day at the hand of your parents, from the cruel taunts of classmates who tease you because you can't walk without crutches or leg braces, or they call you fat and hopeless, or from the uncertainty of not knowing whether your Mommy or Daddy are coming home, as they are fighting a war in a far away land. But I DO care for each and every one of you, and if I could take away any of the sadness, fear, pain, or tears away, believe me, I WOULD; but as I told you in an earlier letter, I am NOT God, and it is ONLY God who can help you. I can't. All I CAN do is deliver a smile in the form of a package or unexpected surprise; but I am NO miracle maker. That is God's Job, and HE is the Reason for the Season!
I see some of the Little Ones who are facing life's most trying cares and circumstances, and it just breaks my heart to see the pain you are going through. I see the little boy in a wheelchair who is sad because his little brother sat on the HUMMER he got from me last year at this time; and I also see his sister, who is sad because she is missing a little cousin who died only weeks earlier. I see the tears and pain in her dark onyx eyes, and I see the sorrow on her small face. I also see the little boy who lies in a hospital, quivering in pain from burns covering his small body after his Mommy poured hot water on him in her futile attempt to make him stop crying, and I see the grief-stricken faces of parents who have just been told that their little girl has just died. I also see the lonely, friendless little boy who is cruelly teased day in and day out by his classmates because he wears braces and uses crutches in his attempt to walk, and I see the pain in his frightened brown face. I see the sad face of a young teenager who has given up her little boy up for adoption because she is unable to provide care for it, and I see the angry face of a child who is facing abuse at the hands of parents who say they love her, but it is obvious to me that they are only hurting her in the long run.
Just because you don't see me doesn't mean that I don't exist because I DO. I am as real as the Lord and Saviour, and I am as real as the people who surround you every day. I am the spirit of Christmas, of Giving, and if there is one thing that God has taught me, it is the spirit of giving and helping those in need. That is my job. This is one reason why I bring gifts to you because that has been handed down through the generations, and it all stems back to the time when the three wise men brought the Baby Jesus gold, myrrh, and frankencense. That spirit still lives on today, in me, and this is why I make my Yearly Journey because I love each and every one of you, and if I can bring you some happiness (even if only for a brief moment), then that is what is most important to me.
But alas, there are some things that not even I, Santa Claus, can fix, such as the abuse, pain, or sadness. But you CAN turn to my Dearest Friend, God, who can take away all the problems you are facing if you only take the time to ask. That is what He is there for; and He loves you even more than I do. He loves EVERYONE, good OR bad, black OR white, tall, thin, or short, disabled or able-bodied, or whether your eyes are blue, black, brown, green, or grey, or whether your hair is straight, curly, wavy, black, blonde, red, or brown. He doesn't care WHAT you look like or what you are facing: He is ready to take you into His Loving Arms and take away your sadness or fears if you only learn to call on Him. And He is ALWAYS there, no matter WHAT you are doing or what you are facing! All you have to do is call, and He WILL help you if you just let Him do so!
Do you know I pray to God each and every day?? I DO! I pray for all the little boys and girls of this world, especially those who are sad or hurting, and I think that praying has made me a better person, in and out; this is why you sometimes see me cry, especially if you have been bad or are facing life's hurts. It's because I CARE, and I love you all so very much!
But I just wanted to write to let you know that I am thinking of each and every one of you, and I hope that you will be happy with what I am bringing you. The gifts I am bringing you are ones that I specifically chose in mind, and I feel that you will enjoy what I am bringing you. Now, some of the gifts are simple, but it's because the requests I got from these kids were small (still, they were reasonable requests, and as the Jolly Old Elf, I must feel that it is my Santa-ly duty to fulfill the wishes of ALL my Dear Children, no matter HOW small or significant they may seem!), but there are others who are getting more complicated gifts, such as a new computer, a phone, new crutches, a bike, talking books, or a new wheelchair because they have been especially good this year, and I think that they deserve them. My Helpers have made sure that everything is in tip-top working order, and I hope that you enjoy what I am bringing to your houses on Christmas Eve!
Well, I must get some rest before my Big Journey in only six days (boy, the older I get, the faster the time seems to fly by, doesn't it?? Ho! Ho! Ho!), so I will let you go now. I will see you soon; and until then, you be good, and listen to your Mommies and Daddies; and remember: I see what you are doing, and I see you, regardless of whether you are sleeping or awake! So be GOOD for Goodness' sake! Ho! Ho! Ho!
Touching, is a great word for this story. It is sad that a season filled with joy, peace, and love, can still fill the world with depression and sadness. Someday, God Willing, maybe we can "fix" it.
