A little girl with a physical disability has one wish that is dearest to her: she wants one day where kids don't tease her.
She looks like any other kid from the first time you see her: long, brown hair, big, dark blue eyes, a round face. She is rather pretty, but today, she feels a heavy sadness in her chest, and her large eyes are sparkling with tears that threaten to spill.
For she has endured another day of teasing and tauntings from cruel classmates who "just don't understand". The little girl's name is Grace, and she was born with a disability that causes her to use forearm crutches and leg braces when walking. She knows she is "different", and her able-bodied classmates don't know how to handle her or what to think of her, so they choose to redicule her, hurt her feelings. She has had to endure the teasing ever since she first started school four years ago, and it hasn't gotten easier: in fact, the teasing and tauntings have seemed to only get worse.
Grace comes home from school, her face often wet with tears, and she goes to her mother, demanding, "WHY?" Why must she endure all this teasing from kids who don't know what it is like to struggle day in and day out with walking upright on a pair of rickety crutches and heavy braces that often pinch her young legs, or having to use the restroom more than usual because if she doesn't, she will have an accident?
Her mother sees the pain in her daughter's face, and she sighs heavily. She has tried to explain to her teachers about her disabling condition and all what it entails, and she has tried to talk to the kids about her daughter, but to no avail: the kids continually redicule her, and she has very few friends. It's no wonder the little girl is often so unhappy.
To try to get her daughter's mind off her troubles, she suggests that she work on her Christmas list, so she can mail it to Santa at the North Pole. The tears instantly dry up on Grace's face, and seizing a pencil and a piece of lined paper, she commences on working on her Christmas note to Santa. This is what she ended up writing:
"Dear Santa Claus~
My name is Grace Marie, and I am eight years old. I have a Christmas wish that I hope that you can help me with. I am a little girl with a disability, and my wish is for kids to stop teasing me. I walk, but I use forearm crutches and leg braces because my legs don't work right. It's been this way since I can remember. I go to school every day, and every day, kids make fun of me, pick on me, call me nasty or horrible names. I come home from school in tears, and my tummy oftentimes hurts, and I wish I didn't have to go to school. I don't like the kids teasing me. They even trip me and try to take my crutches away from me, and I then fall. All I can do is lie there and cry. Is there anything you can do? I am very sad, and I don't want this to go on. If something isn't done, I may end up doing something bad, like hurting myself. Please, please try to help me!
Love, your friend, Grace Marie, aged 8."
Grace's mother sighs heavily after she reads her daughter's heartwrenching letter to Santa, but she is determined to try to help her unhappy daughter. She calls a radio station, and she shares with the program director her daughter's story, and she also writes a letter to the newspaper, explaining about her child's situation.
Little does either Grace or her mother realize what is in store for them.

when I was a child I was visually impaired and my classmates used to laugh at me and call me blind.
well, maybe this was the reason I started writing poetry and short stories. My characters don't tease each other
