The little ewe made a futile effort to ba a aa for help, no sound came from her after having struggled to get out from under her dead, mother who had fallen on her while giving birth, the ewe didn't know what to do she was trapped in a position and she couldn't get to the udder to feed ,and she was weak from trying to use her right front leg that was bent and painful ,caught under her, it wouldn't move. A wind had started to blow and the snow felt like ice the poor ewe could only shiver.
Then she heard the barking sound of a buck, and a alongside of it, a fawn appeared, it walked away from the bucks side to stand over the little ewe. and gave it a nudge with its cold pointed nose. The ewe with large unafraid coal black eyes stared into the fawns similar eyes sending a message/ The fawn turned towards its father and gave a bark the buck which had been feeding off a bare tree, trying to find a nibble of food, decided to take a look.
When it realized the ewes dilemma, it made a snort then with his giant antlers pushed hard on the sheeps butt until it was off the ewe, but the ewe still could not stand for the bent front leg, so the fawn put it's nose under the leg of the ewe, and the buck gently put its one antler under the other side and lifted the ewe to a standing position on it's three good legs. The little thing wobbled and almost fell but the fawn and buck held on until it got a balance it could handle, then the ewe tried walking with the fawn still supporting under the bent leg.
The buck led the way back to where they had left the mother deer, getting some much need rest after having just given birth to the fawn 2 days ago. As soon as they arrived by instinct the ewe followed the fawn to the deers udders and began to feed. The poor little ewe so hungry could hardly feed, it was shaking so it almost choked from gulping to much too fast. The fawn stopped feeding and nudged the ewe, until it slowed down, then after feeding some more it went to sleep.
The ewe awoke to a surprise nudge from the fawn and as it got up it was able to stand even though its leg was still bent and cramped, it was able to hobble on it, following the fawn as it took off towards the sun shining ever so bright. The ewe felt warm and giddy all over happy to have a friend they came to a barn and the ewe came alongside the fawn, wondering why it stopped. The fawn looked deep in the ewes eyes and once again the ewe seemed to understand and hobbled over to the entrance to the barn and looked inside
There were people standing around something hidden, the ewe watched for a bit then one of the people moved away from the circle and a bright light was revealed. Under the light was a baby, the ewe made a baa baa, and the people turned to look at it, then suddenly the ewe was surrounded by the same light that was over the baby.It stayed for a few minutes, when it left the ewe jumped and ran to tell the fawn. When it realized it was no longer crippled, the bent leg was healed. The fawn started back to where its family was motioning for ewe to follow when they got to the mother they both fed for they were hungry, then the fawn told the mother about the ewe.
The ewe was very happy and tried to tell the mother deer thanks ,for the food she gave and how happy it was that the bent leg was okay now. The mother deer licked the ewe and the fawn made a half a bark like a happy laugh. The Buck came over and said to all three, now we are a family of four so we had better find some good places to graze, lets get a good rest. Tomorrow we travel south for a better place to spend the winter. So they all huddled together to keep warm and the ewe said ba aa ba aa baa ba aa ba aa (thank you all for adopting me) and they went to sleep happily! The ewe dreaming of the baby and the light and what it did .
