Jameela ("Jamie") Sandusky, who was originally adopted from India, writes out her feelings about the recent tsunami and massive earthquake that hit parts of southeast Asia, including her former home in India, only a few days ago.
I am a very sad little girl today. So are a lot of other people around the world.
My heart is breaking because I may have lost friends and some relatives back home. I was born in India, near New Delhi, and there was a huge earthquake (9.0), and then a huge wave called a tsunami (I looked up the spelling for that word) that killed an awful lot of people, not only in India, but in Thailand, Bengaldesh, and at least six other countries. As much as 24,000 people may have been killed, and many, many more are missing.
I have been watching the news on TV, and even though I don't understand a lot of it, I DO know something very bad has happened in India and other parts of the world, and I know that tsunamis and earthquakes are very bad, especially when they cause a lot of death, injury, and damage. This happened on the day after Christmas (Sunday), and it caught a lot of people off guard, as there was absolutely no warning.
I have been seeing the people walking around in all the rubble, and I have seen the dead lying in the streets, and the people crying; and it makes me want to cry. The area is full of poor people, and there is not much help for them; help often has to come from other countries because India, Bengaldesh, and and Indonesia don't have the means to help their people, and a lot of them are very, very poor.
I think I am going to help them. I am going to send them some of the money out of my piggy bank to the Red Cross or somebody that can help these poor people and the earthquake victims.
I pray God helps these people in their time of trouble, and I pray that something good comes out of this awful tragedy. And I pray that God blesses those who lost loved ones in the earthquake and the tsunamis.
I too am very sad for such a tragedy. And I too pray for God to be with all those who have been injured, all who have survived, and all who have lost so much, and for those people around the world who have lost loved ones in this terrible disaster.
