A frightening smell awoke Cajun hours later. She opened her eyes tentatively, every muscle tense. What met her view was even more frightening. A sterile white environment surrounded her. Cajun had been here before and remembered it all too well. The door opened and a nurse wearing a white smock entered the room. She talked softly and Cajun allowed her muscles to relax slightly. The nurse approached Cajun and injected medication into the IV line nearby. As she began to feel woozy and soon the blackness sucked her under again.
The next time Cajun awoke she sensed the presence of another body. Craning her head slowly she soon located the same woman who had rescued her on the street. The woman spoke softly and rubbed Cajun’s forehead. The sound of her voice and the gentle touch on her head lulled Cajun back to sleep. For the first time in months she felt safe. No one would ever be able to hurt her again.
As each day passed Cajun began to gain strength. She was able to walk around and eat. Her rescuer came to see her each and every day. When she was released from the hospital Cajun went home for good. A safe home; where she would never again be hurt. Cajun learned her rescuer’s name was Sharon.
From the moment she saw Cajun stumbling down the street, scared and alone, her heart had ached. She had decided Cajun was going to come home to live with her for the rest of her days.
Sharon firmly believed living creatures deserved a place to live and all the love a person could give them. She did her best to make sure Cajun was always content. She had her own bed and all the food she could eat. Sharon also bought her plenty of toys.
Cajun had found her “forever home” and she could not be happier. Sharon was the best owner any cat could ask for. She never had to worry about being hit or kicked ever again. Those days were behind her. The future held much promise for Cajun and her new owner.
