Dear Journal~
In only three more days (Monday), my maman leaves for Sri Lanka. She is going to Sri Lanka to help with the injured and sick people who were affected by the recent disaster that occurred on the day after Christmas, December 26, 2004, and I am scared that something will happen to her while she is there.
I know I am probably acting silly, but I can't help worrying about maman. She has never really been that far out of the country (the farthest she has been out of America is Mexico or Canada), and a lot of things can happen to her while she is there. I have already lost one family; I don't want to lose another! Maman and I are extremely close, and she takes really good care of not only me, but my brothers and sisters! She could get sick, or another earthquake/tsunami could hit, and she could die in any number of ways, and I don't know what I would do if I were to lose her!
On Wednesday night, at church, our pastor, Bruce Bilkey, gave maman an envelope with the money for the trip; and as you can probably imagine, maman cried. So did everyone else. It was a miracle at how everyone pulled together to help raise the money so maman (and some of her fellow workers at the hospital) could go to Sri Lanka to help with the victims! Ever since, I have been happy for her, because God moved in such a mighty way, but at the same time, I have been scared and worried about something happening to maman while she is away!!
I have been trying to understand my feelings or trying to ease my worries about maman's upcoming trip to Sri Lanka, but I am only a kid, and kids worry about their parents when something major is happening to them. I am no exception. It seems every time I think about it, I cry. I am glad that maman is helping people in need, and I admire her courage in undertaking this trip; but I am scared that I will lose her, and I don't know what I would do without her!!
I will write more later; I am starting to cry again...
